Not sure where else to put this, but it has to do with having your own authority. When I applied for my authority, I had to put my phone number on the application. What the FMCSA does, it places this on a public website, and I'm sure all your info gets distributed. Those of us who have signed up, know that within minutes there are processing agents ringing your phone off the hook.

For the past year and a half, I have received phone calls that, after the greeting always ask "so are you still working on your own equipment?" They will start to ask about where you buy your tools from, too.

I would say that I've gotten 20 of these calls. They refuse to give the name of their company, and as soon as you catch them as a BS artist, they start using obscenities, or they tell you that "I've never called you before." It's never the same person, but they always use the same exact pitch. Several times, they get right to asking for your credit card information.

So, today, I get another call from these idiots. I say politely, like I do every time "please take me off your list." So today, the guy says, " I ain't taking you off sh**. I'm just trying to piss you off." So I hang up, and he calls right back. He says a few more obscenities, and then I hang up. He calls back again. This time I went to the garage and grabbed my air horn from the boat and let him have a blast. No return call. I hope I blew his ear drum.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has gotten these calls. 9 times out of 10, it has been blocked from my Caller ID. Today, the guy called from a Cincinatti, OH listed number: 513-698-8982.

I'm on the Do Not Call Registry, but their site was down today. I plan on reporting this number as soon as I can file a complaint. I'm sure others of us who have filed for authority have gotten these calls, too. For those that haven't, be careful of this scam.

Tell them that you are keeping track of calls coming from their company and that you will report them to the annoyance bureau. You can do this with your service provider. We just got our Authority in Dec, and not 5 minutes after we got the number issued, the phone started. One guy called me three times, and the third time, I told him that I would be reporting his call. I hate that they can see that information!!!

I'm on the Do Not Call Registry, so what they're doing is illegal. I have told them I'm on the registry, and they're like "so what." I try to not lose my mind, but whatever company this is needs to be caught. I just put that number in a Google search, and it comes up with several complaints, and not all of them concern the same thing. It must be some kind of dummy number.

The only time the number has come up is when I first got these calls, and today. Every time since then has always been "unknown." Not sure what I could do to report it.

Call your telephone provider, they can provide you with a code to punch in that will record where the call is originating from. Once they have three calls in that database from the same company, and you have told them not to call you, your phone company will go after them.

Are you getting the garbage mail as well? We just started getting that too. <sigh> :biggrin_25511:

Always get the junk mails from insurance companies, factoring agents, etc... But whoever these guys are, they're just out to get your CC info. If they know you've busted them, they immediately start with the profanities.

I can't imagine what kind of low life scum could get enjoyment out of a life like that.

I've tried calling Cincinatti Bell today, too. They told me there's nothing they can do. I would have to ask my local company to put a block on the number. You would think that the phone company would be willing to do something or at least research it.

you can sue them for 1000 per call... put them on speaker phone, tell them I got you on speaker phone.

make a tape recording and no, you don't have to tell them you are taping since they called you and you told them they were on speaker it is no longer an assumed private conversation.

look it up on the net.

answering the phone? Just screen every cotton-pickin' call and let them pull their hair out because they can't reach you. The hell with 'em.

Others suggestd recording the calls. THAT is a good idea. Once they keep making calls after you have requested (on a recording) they STOP, you can find out from Your phone carrier WHAT Phone Company is THEIR Carrier. Once you have done that, you can get a COURT ORDER to their carrier to peovide you with all identifying information on that account. File a lawsuit against them in your Local Superior Court (you can do that for about $250) for $1500 per call as well as a Court Order they CEASE calling you. Chances they will never appear, but if they violate a Court Order, they are screwed BIG TIME.
Collecting money is a different thing, but that is possible too. Just more work.

I once said, "One moment please while I turn on my recorder so I can let my lawyer listen to this call later on today". They hung up and never called me again. :)
