    Hello all,
I'm new here and this is my first post so be gentle.
been driving for a large company for three years,
two as company driver and one as lease operator.
I'm looking to lease to Landstar and would like some
straight skinny. I have (as is par for the course) heard
all ends of the spectrum as to working for Landstar.
Working hard and self starting is not a problem.
My situation is I will have to finance a truck,
which I'm currently narrowing down. I have not
had to self dispatch so I'm not familiar with the load
board world. I understand there is a learning curve,
and also recognize there is a pecking order. I guess
my basic question is, starting out, whats a reasonable weekly pa to my truck and what's the average learning
curve. I understand its different for everyone, best guess.
    thanks

Well heres my point of view! I LIKE IT HERE! look to the top i think 2 or 3 threads you will get most of your awnsers there. the load borad isnt that bad once you get to know your way around it. The learning curve takes about 3-6 months depends on you! And yes its all on you how well you do! and yes you have plenty of support here between other Bcos and the Chrystal palace! what type of trailer you coming on with?

    SHC and Rogerk Thank this.

Do you like the idea of self dispatch?

I am just starting out with Landstar and thank God my tractor is paid off already. Helps relieve some of the stress from the learning curve.

I'm really not sure yet. I've been pulling dry van. I know that flatbed pays better but is it worth the extra work? Somehow the thought of tarping in the winter...... Are there more loads for flatbed? I have found a w900L w/3406 cat reman 2 years ago and reman trans 1 1/2 years ago. He has a flatbed trailer, Trailer is a 1998 Wabash combo, 48 102 A/R . Asking 18,000. For the tractor and can buy both for 21,500. How much of liability is that 48' trailer?

I do like the idea of self dispatch, just apprehensive because of never having done it. I think that normal though.

I will disturb the Landstar Lovers wearing there Landstar Safety Panties...:biggrin_2559:...I am here and it is very tough to find ''good'' paying loads these days..Our agents just do not do there job and they are ''cut and paste'' agents anymore. They seem to hang out at there house with a telephone, fax machine and a computer scratching there balls in there boxers all day..Forever cutting CH LOADS from there boards and then PASTE them on our L/S BOARD..They strike me as lazy and do not go door to door getting DIRECT good paying customers, like the yesteryears.

Loads i used to pull for 5-6 bucks a mile are now on the boards for 2.50 a mile.It is getting very tough around here.As for a new guy you will have the added expense of the EOBR and the cost monthly. This will hurt you alot..

The only reason i am here is people DO NOT mess with me.I love the idea of sitting home for weeks on end and no one calls me and FORCES ME to do anything...If they started to ''push'' me i would be gone tomorrow and down the road.I love my freedom and time off here.I have alot of other things going on than just ''trucking'' so i need alot of time off to persue other ideas, interests and hobbies.Landstar is wonderful for that.

Right know i am home for 4 days and counting. There is just no freight worth pulling to make good profit. So here i sit getting other things done around here. All in all Landstar is not bad. There is better and worse. It all depends on what your ''needs'' are..As for now the freedom and hometime is what i need,so Landstar makes perfect sence..

OK.I am ready for all the BCO's in there Landstar Safety Thongs to attack me...:biggrin_2551::biggrin_25511::biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523::biggrin_25523:

There are better and worse companies out there for sure, but even at 2.50 a mile I would be doing way better than where I am now. I lease operate and with the FSC do only 1.46 a mile plus all he added expense he biggest being a 500.00 weekly truck payment. Stupidly I thought it would be nice to run a 2012 T660. Plus 2.50 for prepass a week? I was paying 10.00. So my expenses are going to drop dramatically as my truck purchase will be 250.00 a week and I should be able to pay that of in little over a year with doubling up on some payments. So what your describing sounds pretty good from my vantage point. I guess ignorance (of how it use to be) truly is bliss! Lol

Oh, BTW, I've had the EOBR on my trucks for two years now and pay 20.00 weekly for the honor. I understand LS installed for free? If true, yet another savings. Also I lied, my truck payment was not 500.00 it was 550.00 weekly. Lol
