Here is my story. I hauled water from 2007 to 2012 and averaged $65,000/yr and was home every night. It wasn't too bad. My wife and I decided to move from New Mexico back to DFW to be closer to family. I couldn't find a vacuum truck job that paid (going rate in that area seems to be around $15/hr, I was making $23) so I started looking into sand. Every company I talked to, and even drivers, said you could make $1000 to $2000 a week hauling sand. Sounded good, I would be away from home, but you do what you have to do, right? In the last8 months hauling sand I have averaged $400/ week GROSS. I have worked for FlexFrac, KBR and Tutle and Tutle. This really hit home for me when I did my taxes. I hauled water until 6/30/12 and made $39,688 in six montha time. I hauled sand from 7/1/12 to 12/31/12 and made $12000. Hauling sand is for suckers. Anyone who says they average even $1000 a week is a ######## liar unless they can show you paystubs to prove it.

I don't usually post on here (in fact, this is my first time, although I've been lurking for several months now), but I can't hold my tongue this time.

It's not anyone's fault but your own that you are living in an area that doesn't pay as well as other areas of the oilfield. Calling honest people (such as myself) liars is not going to fix the problem. You don't know me, and I don't know you, but just because you don't make the money I make for the same job doesn't mean I won't call you out for acting childish on a public forum. You said yourself that you made better money in a different area, doing oilfield work. I've never lived where you live now, but it sounds to me like you answered your own question.

And no, I will NOT post pics of my pay stubs on a worldwide public forum just to prove what I make. I thought it was common knowledge that oilfield trucking pays more than $400 a week. I've never even heard of a sand hauler making $400 a week, unless you sat all week. I've made more than that in a day before.

Now, don't get me wrong, we have had slow weeks. But the good weeks more than make up for it. We get paid every Tuesday. I got paid yesterday..... grossed $1590. It was an easy week. Only stayed out one night, and was off all day Sunday.

Either your company isn't charging enough, or they aren't paying the drivers enough. Percentage should be around 25% of what the truck makes.

I have a good friend hauling sand up in north dakota and he real good money you need to get in with a good company if you have a goood driving recored you would not have any problem up here getting a job with any one.
pluse it sounds like you have not been in the oilfield long you have to travel to were the most work is if you want to make good money if you are a sand hauler you need to go to were they are fracing the most. sorry to be mean but if you want to make money you have to follow the boom and were they are fracing. check in to gettting a job with Brady trucking or Badlands if you want to come to north dakota.

Well i am trucking school through a local community college up here (tution was only $400). Its an 11 week course where we drive 4 days a week and have 1 day of week for class. I have 1 speeding ticket and 1 at fault accident in the last 3 years.will it be hard for me to get a job in the oil patch or do you think i would get a driving job right away? Also what can i expect to make? I was thinking of moving to Texas so i could have some sort of a social life.

I live in DFW and work in South Texas. There is a big boom down here. I am willing to go anywhere. Tutle sent me to CO for a week, I made $500. Got sent to Hobbs, made $400. If you read my post, you will clearly see that I have been in the oilfield since 2007. I am willing to go where the work is. I have worked for 3 different companies in 8 months. They have all paid 25%. There is no money in sand.

Sounds like you are in the wrong outfit. Dallas is not the best area for fracking, there's a company called chalk mountain services in San Angelo and pleasanton that start out at $18 an hour and 60 to 70hours a week and home daily. Also in Glen rose paying $15 an hour. I have looked into hiring on with them, but there maybe better outfits out there. They may be worth looking into and it should be slot more than $400 a week.

dont want to tell you how to make your money, but getting paid a percent would be in the companies favor. Not unless they are going to pay you layover time, and what not just my 2 cents
