As far as I am aware.
All the previous employer is allowed to do is verify your time there.

Prime does an extensive background check. They will look into all of your employment for the last 5 years, and verify your employment and rehire status with those companies. They will also inquire about the conditions of your separation. Anything that you omit, or attempt to cover over will be looked at with prejudice. If you get to orientation, and they find something that you're trying to hide you may find yourself asked to leave - and find your way home on your own dime. It's better just to reveal the entire situation up front. BTW, the reason they go through your background with a fine-toothed comb is for the companies protection. A lot of folks get into trouble driving, have problems in their previous employment, etc, and try to sneak into a truck driving job. If they get into an accident, the personal liability lawyers will have a field day with someone who has lied about their past - and a carrier didn't catch it in the hiring process.

Send it to me(PM), I'll call them, and see what they are saying I will ask all the right answers, sometime they only want a fax number so they can fax it to the old company, this way they work underhand and you never know when you are being ratted out.

    mje Thanks this.

To see what your finances are like, to see you will be pulling any $100 fill ups on their card that you have a code and trip number for.... meaning you filling up someone elses truck for $100.00 cash.

    mje Thanks this.

As far as I know, Prime doesn't do a credit check. However, it has become a common hiring practice. It's also listed a a reason that the long term unemployed have a difficult time getting a job.

I understand -why- they do it but don't agree with it in any manner whatsoever. They can make all the low-ball offers they want ... they just don't need to have anyone's previous salary to do it. It's none of their business. Not everyone decides which company they'll go with judging solely by salary. At least I never did I'd gladly sacrifice a bit of pay for a a quality company which won't jerk me around. A company pulling this type of garbage up front is all but guaranteed to jerk you around in other areas. We already know Prime lies about home time. (sigh). I guess that's why Prime (and others) hire so many newbies ... they will try and get away with whatever they can. Always thought Prime was a semi (no pun intended) decent company regarding mega carriers hiring newbies. My opinion of them was overinflated after learning about this behavior requiring the W2s for something other than employment confirmation.

One reason they probably ask for W-2's is because of Google. If you Google, Fake Job History, you can get fake job history with phone numbers, references, resume for a small fee.

I personally know someone who did this. He has a high school diploma, but with a fake job history and educational documents, he landed a management job at a textile mill.

Maybe Prime has experienced this and the W-2's put a stop to it. It may work for companies that don't want W-2's.

A friend of a friend of a friend, etc. works with someone that used Google & for $3,000.00 now has a MBA degree with transcripts included. That high school graduate is sharp enough to pull it off and now makes a 6 figure salary.

I neither recommend nor not recommend this route, I'm neutral, but when one is unemployed and hungry with a family to care for, sometimes the rules are distorted. Politicians do worse things.

It's mostly folks trying to hide a bad work history, but especially a driving job with accidents and/or a bad driving record. Federal law requires all carriers to weed these applicants out, and the lawyers make it muy expensive if the carriers don't,.
