Has anyone noticed the rates have dropped in the van's.The best i could muster up for next week is a load from NY to St.Louis for 2.16 a mile at 10,000 lbs...I then grabbed a 2.00 load right back to NY 30,000 lbs.I used to haul 3-4.00 out of St.louis back to the Northeast this time last year and as far back as 5 years ago....I spent many hours trying to find it and it seems all the freight is paying this much back towards the Northeast.
Are we still in the ''slow'' period.?...Will the rates rise up again and fuel go down.?.It seems the freight is down and fuel is up...
I am not complaining, just curous.I am just grateful to be working and making some profit, even if it is very little.
Rates have dropped..

Maybe the issue here is that you're looking to book too far into the future.

i have had the same rate problems with chicago land. cant seem to get the usual 3.50 back towards buffalo or pa. been a struggle to get 2.30+. i am dealing w agents and several loads boards they gave me login info for. in about 10 days ill be pulling a non haz tanker for about 2 to the truck ave on all miles for a little mom and pop outlaw company.
if that doesnt work its independant time and im hiring an accountant. i have turned down a lot of loads that i could have hauled for 100%. dealing w brokers isnt hard. id say 15-20 calls gets you a load(knowing your lanes and rates). check thier credit and factor.
after 6 years of trying everything with a box i think i give up on it. it has been feast or famine and mostly famine. im averaging about 2 per mile on the gross and thats just not acceptable for me. melons will be poppin up soon but thats what id call a heavy pain and a last resort and temporary
i have a set of 16ft split ramps for $1000 cash firm near erie pa if any1 wants them. used 1 time and carried for 2 months.Last edited: Mar 17, 2013

If you can load a cars with the ramps I would be interested. How far west do you go?

I had a light load in your area that paid $4.49 a mile. It was a short load and you could've emptied same day. I don't want to hear that rates have dropped. The market is showing an expected increase of 15-20% in the 2nd quarter. Time will tell. It's ridiculous when I have a load that goes 16 miles paying $700 that I can't get covered by a BCO. Makes me nearly have a stroke.
-
Then again, maybe I'll just become a BCO. If that's 'bad' money to them, I need to be making the 'average' money that they are.LSAgentOZR Thanks this. -
Unfortunately those are non-brokerable loads. They are asset only so if BCO's say no we're stuck turning the load back to the customer and that's never a good thing.
