I have been researching different companies for my husband while he's out on the road. He just got his CDL a couple weeks ago through CR England and is looking for something better as soon as he finishes training. We had first found Maverick but because he had only been at his last job 9 months he didn't meet their requirements. He's very interested in flatbedding. I checked out Melton, USXpress, Crete, Schneider, and just about everything else. I then found TMC and really like what I have read about them on here and like their emphasis on home time. That is important to us.
Can someone tell me a little more about their requirements?
He does not have his Hazmat, and I know he will have to get it eventually. Is that just a written test at the DMV?
Is Regional or dedicated runs better? Do both of these get the driver home on a fairly regular basis on weekends? I definitely understand sometimes it is impossible for him to make it home on weekends and I'm ok with him being out 2 weeks at a time.

Maverick was his first choice but he didn't meet their employment requirements. Maverick requires at least 1 year with previous employer and he had 9 months. I think other than that he would have made it.

Did he check onto McElroy? Not sure what the job history requirement is, but if he definitely wants to do flatbed, might want to give them a call & talk with them. I finish final week training with them today, & head out on my first solo run later this afternoon. Phone number is 800.992.7863. Website is mcelroytrucklines.com.

The TMC guys I've talked to either love them or hate them.. no middle ground. From what I hear the pay is kinda screwy and the home time is a lie from what they promise.

I'm sorry for all of you who have seen me reply to these types of posts here on TTR, but I just cannot let mis-information in my opinion go.
    1. BLHinshaw is correct. TMC does have a lot of "love it or hate it" people out there. The people that love it went into with the right mindframe as to what to expect. Flatbedding is not easy work and it will remove the people who thought it was or just liked the idea of driving the black and chrome. The people who hate it probably did not hold up with what is required to be able to drive the black and chrome.

    2. TMC's hometime is not a lie. there is a map of the USA on their website that shows what to expect for hometime based on where you live. If it shows that you are in a region with high likelyhood of being home weekends, and you can get the job done all week to put yourself in position to be home on Friday, it will happen. What you find out from the people who complain that "TMC lied to them about hometime" is usually they didn't get the job done early in the week to be in position for TMC to get them home on Friday. When I was on linehaul, I was home almost every weekend and I knew on Wednesday or Thursday if I was going to be home or not.

    3. There are going to be times that it doesn't matter if you have done things right all week to put yourself in position to be home for the weekend and you end up having to stay out. This is (and I cannot stress this enough) TRUCKING. It happens. How you deal with it will decide your future in it. If you expect to be home every weekend and will blow a gasket if your not, probably not a good lifestyle change for you and you should look for another 9 - 5'er. This is not a career change, it is a lifestyle change.

Now, with all that said, the love it or hate it attitude is not just within TMC. Pretty much the same for all trucking companies that hire beginners. Some will adjust and love it. Some will not and hate it.

    Good luck!

I understand, was jujst wanting info on TMC's requirements. Not able to get in with Maverick at this time and not interested in other companies right now. I have checked out Melton but we like TMC because of the possibility of him being home weekly. I understand sometimes things happen and he may be out longer but where he is now he will be home 1-2 days every month. Not ok with us.
