These trucks can't even climb an ant hill...empty. I went up a 6 percent grade empty once and I had to drop a gear. EMPTY! Being empty I shoulda not even lost speed. Whoever thought cutting horse power in half would save fuel is a moron. Now the truck has to fight twice as hard to climb a hill.

Could've been worse. Could've been a lot worse. I had to start on a steep hill at 83000 with 1/4 tanks and shift all 18 gears yesterday. Look at the bright side at least you were empty I see your point but what are you going to do. There's some educated moron that sits in front of a computer screen that says hey if we cut this back we'll save .1mpg...what he doesn't realize is that .1mpg he saves flatland goes right out the stack when you hit a hill.

My 475 from TMC is great! You just have to know where to drop a half gear. I pull past O/Os all the time runninf heavy if I shift right.

I take you have a 13. I only got a 10. I don't have problems shifting too much though. Used to run the mountains all the time. i can downshift all the way to first on a 6 percent and vice versa.

You probably need to shift right in the powerband range to maximize your engines up hill performance.
