All double clutching is doing is helping you slam it in the wrong gear.

No no no lol...double clutching helps you get it in the right gear when your rpms are 25 off from perfect. If ya float in the same senario you might miss the gear and need to slow down to catch one lower. Now if you double cluctch into wrong gears then that's just driver error.

My dad still double clutches after 33 years. I'd like to see someone tell him he doesn't know what he's doing or how to shift properly.

    Richter Thanks this.

It plumb amazes me how you young guys invented the frickin wheel that all us old guys have been using for ages before you guys were a twinkle in your daddy's eye..... The rest of us must be totally stupid, good lord , someone explain to us how we managed to get these big trucks down the roads without double clutchin..... Oh ya and us old guys don't miss gears lol What is even funnier is that most of us have forgot more about double clutchin than the newbies have learned yet... you dont drive for 10 to 50 years and not learn how to double clutch....... we just choose not to do it cause, 1 , it wears your leg out, and 2 floating gives smoother shifting....2 and to top it all off , most of us old guys started out driving a 2 stick or 3 stick truck , way before the 13 speed became popular or was even invented.....

How so? If the road speed and RPMs are incorrect, you won't get into the wrong gear either floating or double clutching unless you are either raising the RPMS to the stratosphere or letting them fall too low in the shifting process.. the excuses just keep on coming...

Most drivers who started in 2003 have never been subjected to two or even three stick tractors.. try again.. Next you'll be telling the readers that the wig-wag was something you saw every day and you changed split rim tires with tubes on the side of the road all by yourself.. ripping people with less time on the road than you like you're some old hand from the glory days is just silly..

Go ahead and tell the truth. You guys work for USX and it just kills your finger to touch that "D" button. You want to cahange jobs but you cant because they didnt teach you how to shift when they trained you. You're trapped.

You claim that floating gears is "lazy" and "wrong". That's your opinion. You obviously are either trying to create an argument, or you are misinformed.

you did the math right, but the clutch still slips some even when you float, and if you do a poor job floating gears, you will still be a lot harder on the clutch and the transmission than if you double clutch, especially if you are hauling a heavy load. I float gears and double clutch. It all depends on the load and the road conditions. One of the trucks I drive has an 8LL and if you try to float with a heavy load, there is a 50% chance you will miss and have to hit the clutch to get it into gear. another truck has a spicer 7 speed, and in some condition, if you try to double clutch, you cant shift fast enough. and another one I drive has a 13, that one is pretty good, you can do whatever makes you happy, just make sure you "feel" when clutching could be necessary.
