    Now three days into second solo run on Phase 3, still having a good time with flatbed. Have been very busy so not able to post as much. Often run up against my 14-hour limit due to the amount of time it takes to secure and tarp loads, I've been told it will get better and already is getting a bit better.

    not sure if i understand the relay thing is that so people can get home without bobtailing very far and then do they take all your equipment also like chains and straps and tarps kinda seems your at the mercy of the others to not mess you over.

    Relaying is just done anytime a driver needs to pass a load on, it could be for many reasons, for example if the driver is almost out of hours but the load still needs to get where it's going. Then another driver with hours can continue with the load.

    When you drop a relay at a yard, you pick up the amount of equipment from the storeroom that you're leaving on the trailer with the load. The driver who picks up the relay drops off that same amount of equipment at the storeroom before leaving with the loaded trailer. That way both drivers keep their full complement of equipment. The load being picked up has its paperwork in the office, along with a list of what equipment is on the load, so the relaying driver knows what they need to drop off first. It works well.

    Me too...takes me a little more time with directions, hooking up, docking etc..now driving..lol i can roll. Its not that i cant do.it faster i just dont want to screw something up..

    Thanks for all the good info you guys post. Im 53 and looking to go to rdtc in june and join the flatbed fleet. you guys have bee alot of help making my decision.

    An hour late today..just ran out of hours with my ten in the middle. Started truck this am..primary line wouldnt charge..then while on hold with dline..restarted truck..third time was the charm..it seems the primary air line acts up in the cold..then it levels out and acts normal. Talked to maintence line and he advised to watch it...maybe time 4 them to look at it. Mite goto gp on my way to next load which heads north. So that cost me 20mins..then tried to find a scale..another 20mins..lol then miss 635 in dallas somehow so have to turn it around off the frontage road and go back south on i35...so i arrive 45mins late..now i sit..gonna watch these guys back for a while..good training.

    Looks like about a six hr wait for a dock..i go in after another schneider drv who was late too. Six for him too..hes been with schneider 20yrs. Fyi i did not oversleep or slack off to get to this point..just being new safe and cautious. I did clean up the condo some. Been running hard and havent had time for that lately.

    Yep that's how it works, just make sure you check over the load good before leaving with it, because the driver that loaded it may not have the load secured to the same standards that you would. For the most part the loads are good if it was dropped by another OTR driver but if it was a local driver that set up the relay, than you better CHECK CLOSE!! Also I've noticed if a driver knows they are going to be relaying a load off, they will be sure and use every junk strap, ripped tarp, rusty chain, and locked up binder they have, so just know ahead of time your probably going to have to swap out equipment at some point after delivering your relay load. My advice don't be one of those drivers. If you know you have bad equipment than swap it out, don't hose your fellow driver by using it on a relay load.
