I will never understand some people. I am sitting at Burris in Atlanta. Kind of tight backing when there are trailers parked in front of you and trucks on each side. I see one of our trucks trying to squeeze in. I get out and tell him I am a Stevens driver too and will keep an eye on his blind side for him... he gets out of the truck, does a GOAL... that's good... never once acknowledged that I was standing there or even spoke to him...

I made sure he got in ok and just went back to my truck... not a hello, good bye, #### off, nothing... SMH

When faced with that Ontario or Castaic decision, I usually head to Ontario. Not sure if this is true or just how it's worked out for me, but my reasoning is from Castaic I am going into the valley. From Ontario it could be the valley or.points south such as Coachella, El Centro, and Yuma.

Not sure they think the same way in Dallas, and after my 600 mile deadhead last month i am not going to try to figure their reasoning either, but that is my logic.

I hope you weren't misled, but Stevens is not a regional carrier. We go where the freight goes.

Completely aware of that, but also aware that a lot of freight tends to move through the DFW area.

Now, if you tell me all those pretty trucks are empty, I might have to ask you to kindly put out the fire in your pants.

Not at all, but if the freight on those pretty trucks did not originate in the area your guy emptied, he was sent to where the freight was going.

Appreciate the heads up. As previously stated it is something we are both aware of and is not a new piece of information requiring a complete rethink of the situation.

No reason for rudeness, however, I have seen other drivers guide a driver into a wall, another truck or in one case, off the edge of the tarmac into the mud. Also, some drivers make poor guides with hand signals that can only be interpreted by deaf alien spaceship pilots.
    But thanks for trying.

Don't trust the night and weekend crew. We're so bad that we can barely feed ourselves!
Seriously, tho, if he's being asked to repower other loads in trouble, then he's demonstrating his ability to 'git 'er done'.
We recognize those that do a good job and will often ask them to help. If he wants to get to a certain area, he needs to speak up.
I often have drivers tell me, "anyplace but Cali" or "keep me out of the NE" or "got something heading up to the PNW?"
If I can use them for a repower to the area they want, I do. As a matter of fact, if a driver tells me they want a particular area, I look at my list of trucks needing repowers and see if there is one that will work for them.
Now as for getting to Texas? The majority of loads headed to the Dallas area are on trucks that are being guided back to the yard for the driver's 90 day rodeo. I think most drivers will tell you that if they have a load to Dallas, they are expecting to be grabbed by the mothership's tractor beam and sucked right into the Mesquite Vortex.
Not always, but more often than not.

That's just it though... wasn't trying to guide him, just keeping an eye on that rear right corner that was close to a shiny Peterbilt 379 that was obviously someones pride and joy. I just stood back there and let him do his thing.

He left just before I did and the guard wasn't very complimentary of him either. He said to me " well you're a whole lot smarter than that Stevens driver that just left here"

Oh well... what are you gonna do but laugh about it.

Sent a load assignment this morning, pick up last night at 21:30... get message from DM, make sure you can pick this load up and deliver it on time before you acknowledge it... yea... can't make the pick up on time. Truck getting oil changed at Petro, I'll see if they can check the flux capacitor while they are at it.

Right now, the goal is more "git r done" than "get me home" which I encourage and appreciate. He wants to work, and we all know that isnt always the case out there. When he is ready to swing through, he will let you know. Til then, just keep that boy movin.
