Okay, I Installed the Bearcat 880 on my 2012 freightliner, and run the diagnostics. I had an antanna fail so I replaced the stock antannas with the 4' firestick antennas. However, I get horrible reception and nobody can really hear me very well. Any thoughts? I did do the SWR tuning as per the instructions in the book, but I would like to be able to communicate further than 1/2 of a mile. Thanks for your replies.

I'd suspect the coax.
-
what are your swrs
if your talking about the radio swr meter dont use that that crap swr meters on radios are bad off use a external swr meter and dont pay attention to the warning light its just a play pretty -
1.25 is the highest I can get the SWR, adjusted anywhere else I can only get 1 or even none. No clue what else to do
-
did u use a external meter? and the firesticks should recieve good are u sure your only gettin out 1 mile cuz alot of times guys are agravating and dont want to talk to u
bored silly Thanks this. -
I did not use an external. I would als9 like to have more than 4 watts of power. Guess im going to a shop.
-
u need to get u a external meter and if u dont find a shop ship it to me
-
I agree with the external. Then recheck. Yes, 1.5:1 is optimal, but 1.2:1 is good too.. You just don't want much higher than 1.5:1.
Take it to a shop for the more power wish.
I'd still be leery of the coax, I've not seen too many semis with decent coax setups from the factory. -
alot of shops are rippin people off thats why i went into buisness other than that get it set up for a amp cuz 880 will do 22-25 watts tuned
-
It is your coax. There are several good threads on here about the Freightliner Cascadia and its radio problems. The best fix I've seen is run a new coax from the antenna to the radio and bypass all the factory stuff, and get a good quality antenna.
bored silly Thanks this.
