I went to the GATS Show last year and was amazed at all of the technology being put into trucks! There were mobile data terminals, hand helds with cameras, scanners, smart phone with software apps, you name it! One company had an Ipad app that claimed to make the whole process paperless. From pictures of BOL's being taken at pick up and sent to the terminal ahead of the load to driver logs, to proof of delivery and billing applications. So here is my question to you. What companies are doing what and how does it all work?

My step mom works for a small outfit out of northern Utah that gives all the drivers smartphones and they scan all their paperwork off of that and email it in. They just barely got the system this month so well see how it goes

I think as more and more technology is proven you will see more places using it. I was in one of the first Roehl trainer trucks that went elog.. I think I taught my trainer more about it than he trained me, and we both attended the same class in Marshfield.

I would guess we are still in the very very infant stages of in cab tech. Over the years more and more will be adopted but i can recall the very first Qual comm units and Cell phones and they were not all that long ago really but seems like forever. Heck just GPS is from only the Gulf War. It all seems common now . I will never forget having to find a payphone when directions had gone wrong in the middle of some massive city with no parking and no volume on the phone lol.
We've come a long way.Road_Angel Thanks this. -
Personally I think this is the way to go in regards to scanning on BOL's, DO's, and other important paper docs, Saves trees too. if organized properly you'll have proof of the whole process down the road which keeps you out of hot water.
