I don't understand how ANYONE could not know their BEP. If you don't know that, than you don't know what cheap freight is for YOU.
I do not and will not pull cheap freight!

If I can run my truck and trailer for .85 for all miles, gross 1.65 for all miles and net .80 am I hauling cheap freight? If the person is spending 1.05 per mile and grossing 1.75 for a net of .70 per mile, is his freight cheeper than mine? We are also running the same miles per year. He is netting less. Define cheap freight and bad business decisions. An ignorant nation will never be free! TJ

Break down all of your business costs for the truck and then household costs, retirement, health ins, car ins, etc, etc and show us how you can roll for $1.65 a mile and still have profit left over at years end. I get beat up for including household but we all have those costs even though they aren't business they don't miraculously go away. Tend to believe most don't or won't honestly assess what it costs for them to roll.

Because you should be separating them out. Have a household check book and a business checkbook. And keep the business out of the household check book as well.
But hey, not like someone hasn't tried to explain that to you in the past.SheepDog Thanks this. -

I am an independent with my own authority 262265 for 20 years now. Flatbed carrier and my equipment is paid for. I should gross 1.61 per mile less fuel .53 per mile @ 4.00 per gallon, parts & repairs .17 & fixed cost .08. Total out flows .78 = .83 net taxable on 120000 miles for things like rental houses, equipment replacement escrow, insurances, household, taxes ect. I stopped driving a truck years ago and started driving a business. I know my numbers. Math is absolute.

How much did you pay in total for fuel last year?
