What about 1 ton no trailer? Online one of the requirements for all truck drivers is a CDL.

I agree light loads in a 1/2 ton with lots of driving it should do fine. And yeah 1 ton loads in a 1/2 ton (not that it cant be done, just not the smartest idea) are a quick way to tear up a 1/2 ton pickup

    Not a 1 ton load, a 1 ton truck.

Just wondering if the rates are there to justify the use of a pickup truck? I know a few who piece together loads for their operation in order just to break even in the slow times and this sounds like a losing proposal.

Nothing like dh'ing 200 miles to eat up all your profit when the company has nothing for you.

Here in wv you can plate a 1 ton truck for 26,000 and haul up to that total scaleing weight, and have a trailer with a 10,000lb gvw. And if you have those here your allowed 36,000 total weight (truck, trailer, you and load) and not need a cdl. Some companys may say they require a cdl but what class? A commercial driver driving vehicles 26,000lbs gvw and under falls under class D.

also most one tons are at 80-100,000 miles in the first year, hot shot companies will wearout a vehicle in about 2-3 years, pick ups arent designed for the weight or the work load that this industry puts on it
