Based on how the government tries to dictate everything else in trucking and for that matter everything in our lives no i'm not shocked.

Is it completely wrong? Of course it is.

I couldn't see how it could be right either.

So do you have a better perspective on rates perhaps ?

    No I don't Chris.,
My only involvement in towing was when I was a service manager at a new car dealership. The main thing our tow operator complained about was the high price of insurance

Thanks, it's hard enough trying to find the new cost of a wrecker let alone insurance !!

    Thanks

I have spent the last few days checking this and that and am slowly (read rapidly) coming to the conclusion that it is not going to be a worthwhile endeavour for me.
That said it has been good to have looked at and I appreciate your comments guys.

I did drive a tow truck before I got into big trucks and had an idea about buying my own and finding my own business, but also letting the other established tow companies know I could take up their slack if they were overwhelmed, such as a rainy day etc. Just never put it past the thought process. Having a yard is big overhead. I remember a guy who started his tow company with one truck and his office was a phone booth (in the 60's). He built it into a big business with police contracts etc. The one thing about towing is you can cherry pick your services, such as towing only, no storage, in which case you could store a vehicle at a competitors storage lot. (you forego the storage fee). Considering all the truck traffic around Chi/Gary area with the trucking companies there also, I'd think there's room for more big rig tows.

    Thanks for that.
What kind of heavy truck do you have and what do you pull with it ?

I don't have a heavy truck, never did. I was a tow driver in the early 70's for a company and considered, at that time, of buying my own.
