What happens if you shorten it a very little bit?

I honestly can't say I tried that... but I will.

I was excited by the progress of getting anything less than 3 when I lengthened the antenna to its max.... then I screwed it in all the way and it got back to worse...

I'll try screwing it in little bits at a time tomorrow...

I tried on a couple of different pick-ups to mount an antenna on a ladder rack that was bolted to the bed of the pick-up. Never could get it to tune well. Same luck when trying to mount an antenna on a tool box. Drill a hole in the roof and mount the antenna. End of problem.

I am curious how things turned out?

You should do about two turns shorter and measure SWR, be sure to put the cap put back on each time you adjust, close the doors of the truck, and park in a wide open area so there will be no "reflection" from other items near by.

    Keep us posted

Happy... busy day... but played with it for about 5 mins before I had to get rushing into deliveries...

I screwed the little brass screw down a few turns and SWR went WAY down!

Something like less than .5 on ch 1 and about 2 on cha 40!

That's about as much as I got to do, but I'm confident with that progress and a few more minutes I can get something decent going here...

Lotta rain in the forecast the next few days, but sometimes that may give me a few free moments... I'll try a few different lengths and report back....

Thanks for yall's help so far...

With an SWR under 2, you can talk with that radio now, I bet if it is that low on 1 and 40, channel 19 is good. Anything under 3 is acceptable, of course try to find that "sweet spot"

It would seem that you will be able to get around 1.5 on 1 and 40 with some minor adustment but you are at a good match at the moment. and when done it most likely will be lower on 19 than on 1 and 40..

Yes you can with the Wilson short load i posted a link too....It is still just as long electrically as the 62.

He has other issues going on...

Has he said what type of SWR meter and how it is being calibrated and used?
