Right on, I dont have any equipment payments and using the older recondition program. I should not have to figure on replacement or it can be pretty minimium. 5 days of working 2500 miles handling 2 loads I net .75 - .80 per mile. Stay safe and proffitable.

you get a truck that runs about 3500 miles, fuel is $2333, or 66cpm thats so if he is getting .57 on top of that .66, he has cleared $2000 after fuel
.66 + .57 = 1.23/mile
lets do that again
he is running 3500mi @ 1.23/mi = $4,305 - $2,305 for fuel he nets $2,000
got it?
i know most O/O's pulling dry vans are doing better than $1.23/mi, plus you have to take out insurance and maintenance, however, at the end of the week, he has $2,000 to divvy as he sees fit
if his household expenses are $1,000 a week, he can put the rest of the money into the truck -
now lets say he is averaging $1.50/mi for 3000 miles
$4500 gross, $2000 fuel, that leaves $2500/week -
any gambler will tell you"you cant have a big payoff without a big risk"

Being an O/O doesnt have to be a gamble. If you can make it a very calculated risk by knowing and understand your numbers through education and planing. The mistake some O/O make is the thought because they are and work hard by driving lots of miles that its going to "pan out" out. That will be a job with risk instead of driving a business with a truck to develop a career.

The rate is the same for all of us when we are laoding side by side on any giving day headed to the same point. How we get there is what seperates us. Direct, broker and equipment are the factors.

there is still a gamble because you can be up and ready ready to go and all you need is a one guy to jump in front of ya and slam the brakes on to try to collect your insurance money or god forbid a blowout through a curve or GOD knows what could happen you never know it's always a gamble even if you set money aside for a blown motor and transmission from day one there driver

hey like I said it is a gamble can't have a big payoff without a big risk I'm not saying that the risk is not worth itsince I started working I started off as the landscaper went on to being a welder then became on motorcycle mechanic and now I'm driving trucks for the past two years almost I'm going to venture into something new I'm looking for that big payoff and I am willing to take the big risk honestly like everyone here has stated if I plan carefully expect the worst and hope for the best I should be alright
