Anyone know what this error message is(Check ECU)? It pops un on the dash once in a while. I called the Volvo dealer and they had no idea.

It's supposed to come up if there is a problem with the ECU [Engine Control Unit], the computer that runs the motor. However, Volvo's are notoriously finicky and that fault is most likely being caused by a short circuit somewhere.

An 04 VNL670 I used to drive would spit out the same error; the local dealership was able to find the short and repair it.

excellent, I appreciate the heads up. Did the truck run any better after the short was corrected?

Well, it didn't run bad even with the short. The message would just come on the display, stay there for a few minutes and then disappear. And the truck never skipped a beat. Go figure?!

Would suggest you check all of your battery connections - must be very tight - that was the source of my ECU issues.

This probably isn't going to be the only error message you get with your Volvo. I once drove from Youngstown, OH to Laredo, TX with an MID 32 (I think) error and alarm constantly going off. I took it into two company shops and three Volvo dealers along the way. All any mechanic could tell me was that it was happening due to a faulty ABS sensor on the trailer.

Interestingly enough, that alarm will go off 18 times in a mile at 66mph.

oh god... so far the only issues I have is the check ECU and the cruise control is not working. I figured it was a fuse cause the power mirrors went out at the same time replaced the fuse for the mirrors, but I cant find a fuse for the cruise control in the fuse box on top of the dash.

Is this your truck or a company truck?

Volvo's are (in my opinion) the smoothest riding short wheel base trucks out there. I also really like the quietness in the cab and all the driver friendly ergonomic controls. However, with all the electrical problems I had I would never buy one. The most shocking thing I experienced with mine was that the ground wire on the starter corroded in two at just 60,000 miles on the truck. :biggrin_25524::biggrin_25513:

this is my truck, I hate the idea of paying for electrcal issues cause they can take so long to diagnose. I have the VNL42T. its not that quiet and the fuel milage sucks. I expected to get around 7mpg. Pulled a load to KS from Ohio with about 8200 pounds and avaraged 6.3mpg. on the 475 ISX motor.
