wow am i so so glad i found this thred I was about to fall for all of that buying a new truck and a new trailer and what not I have been around for a little but I read and looked at the forum and i liked the truck show part but i have been asking myself why do i need to buy a brand new truck to start out why like any one else who is getting in to trucking or anything for that matter gets something that is used but is in good shape and has checked it out and then after a couple of years of doing it and getting your feet wet then step up to a newer nicer set up after you have learned a little about it. when i talked to them last week they said my pick up was to old and that it would not be reliable and it is a 06 cummins that only has 61,000 miles on it.. so i have to agree with you guys and i have not even worked for him.

The year before an 07 became an "old truck" which is the year before an 08 became an "old truck".

Sheesh. That's just silly. 61K miles is "almost new". I don't own ANYTHING that new (06).

That's crazy 06 and 07 (the 07's with 5.9L) were the last reliable diesel trucks Dodge ever made.

yes they told me that there customers prefer new and reliable trucks and trailers and i asked him when the last time some one came and asked him to take there freight off the trailer because they did not think the truck was nice enough to haul there freight!!! then i was told that they perfer there guys to stay out for 8weeks and they would try to get a load to your home and take a week off. and after reading some of what has happen if i was to stay out for 8weeks and only haul a few loads a week i would go crazy lol

With gary if you're gone eight weeks that means you've only worked four weeks. you spend a week "building one of them "high" dollar loads then you spend a week dropping off like a constipated cow and then it starts over agian. Thats why 99.9% don't last a year doing it. Then spend just as long trying to sell al the new equipment the "pied piper" lead you to buy. Want to hotshot get a newer trailer and an older truck and you may make some money of you survive the first couple years.

This isn't exactly a convincing argument. After all, I spent a quite some time exhaustively reading his site, and all of the "advice to new guys" stickies, etc, etc. I also read back into the history on the site and kept noticing that there were a lot of "new starts" that just vanished and VERY few long time experienced people who contributed to the discussion.

Sure, there's lots of useful stuff there. But as to the quality of Gary's services, I'm not convinced. Frankly, I dislike the notion of being totally tied to one dispatch, especially since I would pay them, not them pay me, like a leased operator would. There's only ONE person who is the most determined to do the best for the owner... and that's the owner. Everyone else's motivation is diluted.
