seems clean overall but 2 things would worry me a bit 1st chrome is burnt on exhaust as if it got really hot and dates on filter and power steering indicate 90000 miles since service unless not written down since i loved my 98 fld 500 detroit it was 6.5 winter and 7 plus us gallon summer pulling 95000 lbs thru ontario 2 lanes running 63 mph at 1550 rpm
what do you guys think about this one ??Is This good FIRST truck??????

When the house sells, I am buying property in Kentucky, slapping a cheapo mobile home on it and diversifying my portfolio with some aggressive funds as well as some international funds.
Y'all can have the headaches of being an owner operator, I'm quitting my OTR job and focusing on what's really important, family. Thank God I have used my OTR wages wisely and I can now say I have ZERO debt...it's been a long two years but now I can do what I want.
That, my friends, is my definition of rich beyond my wildest dreams...it really don't take money to be rich.

I would jump on it. trucks like that are rising quickly in pricing. Most of the people here that say no to buying an older truck are in the back ground trying to figure out if they can afford to go get it and get it back. I would say try and bring him down to 15 tell him it needs fairing put on and misc maintance. tell him by the dates you see and not having any records it will need a full service with all filters replace including the air dryer worst case they stay on the price but give it a service job for you. 12.7 is pretty much bullet proof I have 3 million and counting on my 96 had so many 12.7 over the years and only 1 or 2 had issues

It would be very wise to get an oil sample from this truck BEFORE 'jumping on it'. If in fact it hasnt been serviced in 90K miles then you are headed for major shop bills, but an oil analysis will tell you that right away. Take it to a Detroit shop and let them test it, its only about 15 bucks and very cheap peace of mind.

I like this truck. For pulling a van though I would invest in the skirts/fairing that attaches behind the sleeper, it will help mileage alot. The rear gear is the only negative, unless your staying with in a few states of WA, where speeds are slower and hills are longer, then that gear is a desirable!!
Have a shop pull the pan and check bearings and bull gear. Do an over head and drive on. Pulling the pan would have saved me 20,000. yep rod bolt came loose at 700k, motor was running like a top. tiny blow by ,tiny oil consumption, 6.5 mpg.....but bolt somehow vibrated loose and BOOM! pull the pan!!buddyvuk Thanks this. -
The truck itself will be a nice solid truck for you, I have a '98 same truck but with a yellow powerplant. You need to have this engine checked out as it is your main source of bread n butter. I would never buy a truck without having at least an oil sample to go on to have some idea how much wear is on it.

Try to get a truck with old oil for a good sample! Rig dig is a must. ECM history is very helpfull. Look for reasons NOT TO BUY the truck, instead resons to buy it.

If yer gonna look for reasons not to buy a truck then nobody would buy any truck cause not everything is gonna be perfect. How bout just going in with an open mind and weighing the pro's n cons...
