Flatbed vs TCD

Now don't listen to all these wiseguys. Come on over to the glass division and make some real money. All glass loads must be tarped, but it will always be indoors in a heated/cooled building. Many times the loaders help with tarping as well.

The best part of glass is that when I get a back haul that isn't glass I'm still getting paid more than the flatbedder hauling the same load right behind me.

Remember what I said about the 120lb tarp in 40mph weather while its -10? Now imagine all that plus standing on top of glass 13 feet high.

Most of the Columbia's are no longer in service as company trucks. You will be in a Cascadia. It will be anywhere from a 2011 to a 2014. Depends on your luck. I've known of several people lucky enough to finish training and get throw into the 2013 and 2014s as brand new drivers in new trucks. I don't throw tarps in 40mph winds. I'm only 135lbs myself so a 100lb tarp in 40mph winds is just a sail. I don't stand a chance of holding onto it. I've only had to throw tarps outside once and it was 60*F out and sunny with nearly no wind. I folded them 2 days later in 10*F with slight gusts that kept trying to help me with folding them.

 

Yeah, most likely you'll end up in a 2013 or 2014 truck. They may put you in a 2012 if there's one sitting at the yard, but almost all of the 2011 trucks are on their way out. There are no Columbia's still in service for company drivers, the only ones you may see are older IC trucks. They actually tend to put new students in brand new trucks because they tend to take care of them better, but it's not guaranteed obviously. But there's really not much difference between the 2012, 2013, and 2014 trucks - the interiors are pretty much identical.

And I'm really just teasing about flatbed and glass, both are good divisions just like TCD is. You're really in a great location for all three divisions, so again it's up to you. Keep asking questions so you can make a good, informed decision.

Yes, the trucks have lots of safety features and all work very well.

 

You have no idea lol. Maverick gives us full authority to shut the truck down if unsafe conditions exist, and they don't punish us for it. They're always testing new safety systems for the trucks. They're not afraid to spend money to put us up in nice hotels (been in two that I know had to have been at least 4 star rated) when required. They have an entire Driver Advisory Committee that's made up of drivers who have won Driver of the Month or Driver of the Year, and their purpose is to advise the company on courses of action that directly affect the drivers. How many companies can claim all of that, PLUS have the best pay structure for new guys I have ever seen?
