I bet that goes to alotta local folks too. Greenhorn Canadian driver is by no means safer driver than these TFW guys.
But in general I get where you are coming from. Just watched the first episode of "Highway thru hell". Guys going to face the mountains without ever trying to put chains on a flat ground ?? (it is for your own interests) But that is also a company issue. Probably local greenhorns go the same way.
Anyway raising wages is not going to help with driver shortage either. Here there is also a driver shortage .. basically the same deal. There are drivers available but not "good" drivers. Not many young folks enter this industry, it is not popular. Even if you can make 3x the median here as a driver. It just isn`t about the money. It is about the work itself. I think the same would be there in Canada.. Even if you could make 3x the median, still you would`nt see many drivers returning to the industry or new local young drivers. That is why companies are looking abroad .. they know raising wages will not go a long way.

Get off your high horse and open your eyes .. you sound just like the billybig riggers that used to try and give me stick over the CB ,then when im at a truckstop be as nice as can be ...yeah its the immigrant drivers fault you are paid 30c a mile ,,its as much their fault as blaming them for rain in BC and cold on the Prairies.
If companies were not employing them ,it would be the gov clearing out people from Ei/sick claims ,making them move across Canada and housing them in work camps in the west whether they want to or not! yeah so much for friendly Canada.
transport companies alll over the world are out to make a profit and with fuel prices etc ..wages /conditions are the only things that the companies can work on.
Dont forget many many USA drivers see no difference between Mexican and Canadian drivers and as far as they are concerned they are stealing American jobs.TexasTailTwister and Prairie Boy Thank this. -
I don't make $.30 a mile and wouldn't work for that little and nobody should. $3000 a month minus taxes is no living wage for the work involved in running 10000 miles a month.
There are many reports in the media of TFW's being taken advantage of by their employers, being forced into crappy accomodations, and being forced to repay the costs that the employer bore in bringing them over. This is not news.
I'll leave off with this:
There are 330,000 TFW's in Canada and in March 54,000 Canadians lost their jobs. Your solution seems to be bring in some more and my solution is the opposite. -
Tractor trailer, you mentioned lousy accomadations, does that include the volvo's and freightliners....

In Ontario and Quebec there is no TWP for truck drivers (or is there today ?). That should mean that wages in those areas are higher because there is no massive influx of foreign drivers ? Especially if you would run in eastern provinces only, then TWF will not probably compete with your load either. BUT the higher wage in eastern provinces is not the case, is it ? So what is the problem there ?
jimbo47 Thanks this. -

CIC reported more than 192,000 temporary foreign workers entered Canada in 2011. The overall total includes about 70,000 foreign workers whose employer required an LMO from HRSDC and close to 120,000 who did not require an LMO. In 2011, more than 29,000 temporary foreign workers made the transition to permanent status. Get real your net migration for the second largest country in the world is not that great either.
Lets use your ideal and remove all non native Canadians and see what is left standing. Will you be one of them? i doubt it very much. Dam colonies need to start behaving more. -
so in March 54thousand Canadians lost their jobs,( ive been there and its a kick in the teeth being out of work i wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy ) soo if i follow your way of thinking ...Canada for Canadians only! then they should be forced to be retrained ie..shop assistant in NB to become rig pig,In SK. no mercy shown, now there is no unemployment EI claims staff trained as truckdrivers
yeah you dont care what the American drivers think ..HUH ...so its ok for you to complain about foreign drivers in Canada,,,but the Americans cant complain about foreign drivers in the USA,if you think they dont care after alll you are Canadian think again , some of the USA driver forums are filled with the same BS you spout but instead of TWP workers substitute Canadians.
R660 yup you are correct ish no PR for truckdrivers (in ON) but you can get a WP. -
My BS huh? I want my fellow Canadians to do well, to work hard and be rewarded for their work, without the fear of losing their jobs to someone legally paid less. I want their money back working in the communities buying haircuts and laptops and lawnmowers instead of sending the money overseas.
I guess that's just my BS.
I'm outta here. This thread's been overrun by trolls who don't even live here. -
overrun by trolls who dont even live here????
i live in MB ,work hard ,,and pay a mortgage like most, and if you must know...im living the dream!!and treated/looked after very well at work
and i hope in around a yr a proud Canadian citizen (yup thats another $500 + $300 to prove i can speak /understand English, inc familly))
sorry to see you go but if you act like /sound like a racist dont be surprised when an immigrant talks back.
To the rest o the good people on the forum,,,sorry but i just had to say something.
