No luck and bad luck play a part....We had 7 rigs running under our own flags, had all kinda contracts, contacts, and great drivers. we where doing great and had just had a new line of contracts come up and ordered 5 brand new w900 custom order unlike anyothers. When out of the blue the biggest contract we had went under and took 75 percent of our work. we did everything we could to keep things going. but with the lost of that one we lost others due to not being able to get to the area for their loads. And with the purchase of the 5 new rigs and pay cash for them we cut ourselves short and ended up closing shop......
It can be done..

What an inspiration post. Thanks. I know 2 guys with similar stories, both doing extremely well.

I love hearing stories like this. My dad was appalled when I bought my first truck 6 years ago n kept telling me I would never make it, but it motivated me more to be successful and now I have 3 n lookin at another this summer.

Trucks like that do not make you more $ but sure cost more. I have bought more SHOW trucks at bankruptcy auctions over the years for low$
CbarM Thanks this. -
You gotta know when to hold em, kno when to fold em, know when to walk away, Know when to run. LOL
-
I gotta ask...why would anybody with a small outfit want to almost double their size in 1 order with brand new 'custom unlike no other' trucks without anything garenteed??

p.s.- you have no business quoting atheist books anyways ! -
I don't think Ayn Rand was an atheist. She shunned those who believed in mind control, and I do think a lot of Ayn Rand's ideas are found in the Bible, however ironic that may sound.
Anyways, the system we have is that it's based around equality of opportunity. I'm not sure what you're trying to get at, Danny, but I hope you're not saying something like "well person x doesn't deserve his millions because he was just lucky that he got rich, and all these poor people are unlucky although they work just as hard, so we need to take half of person x's money and give it to the unlucky poor".
I guess maybe a tad bit of it comes down to luck, if you believe in that, or some sort of variation. This guy's story isn't the only story out there, many people are working to move themselves ahead in the rat race, including O/Os, and some will succeed, some will fail, and many will fail first and then succeed. Some will be too afraid to make the move into buying a truck, or starting a business, some will have life circumstances that make it very difficult to start a business, some of those will overcome that, some may not be able to, etc etc etc.
But I believe that opportunity is still there for millions of people in this country. That is the key. We don't have the right to a perfect life, or a perfect world, but what we DO have is the right to have opportunity to better your life. That is, until the politicians take it away like they have for hundreds of millions throughout the last 100 years.Zangief Thanks this.
