The concept it simple.... to do a complete 11 hrs of driving, no driving (including on duty time) period of greater than 8 hrs before a 30 minute break. So that means the the break could occur anytime between the 3rd and 8th hr of driving. If taken after the 3rd hr, then will have 8 hrs driving left and will satisfy the regulation. This isn't rocket science and doesn't take a college education to decipher. Some folks' paranoia is causing them to miss the simplicity of the regulation. While it is a hassle, it is not complicated.

No Cowpie1, it's not rocket science and doesn't take a college education to decipher.... Yes, I had some difficulty understanding when I read the rule for the first time today because of the way it was written. I am not the only one who misunderstood it though... But I got it now. It's like 30 min mandatory break for each 8 consecutive hr drive. And yes, it's a freaking hassle... I think the government is the one making everything much more difficult and complicated.

pro's and cons of e-logs by drivers point of view. buy the e-book on amazon

just got off the phone with an ex-elogger
he swears elogs make you MORE because once your day starts, its a race against the clock, at least for the first 8hrs
who wants or needs that kind of pressure?
yes, you get to rest for ten hours
who needs ten hours of rest? -

It's only a problem if you let the 14/11 hour clocks get to you. Remember... if you're doing things legally on paper, it should be no different with elogs. When I am up against the clock, the GPS and a calculator are your friend. GPS distance to go divided by elog drive time remaining gives you your minimum average speed you need to run to get to where you need to be. Go faster, get there sooner. What pressure?
DrtyDiesel and Cowpie1 Thank this. -

Got this response from log person in my company.
"You must take a 30 minute break after 8 consecutive hours of work, whether that is on-duty or driving.
If you take a 30 minute break between the 4th and 7th hour you should be fine. "
I think that is a pretty good summary. -
If you plan on driving until the end of the 14, the single break has to be at hour 6 to hour 8.
Rocks and airforcetoo Thank this.
