Hello, Im getting ready to start school and I am having to budget my money. My question is should I go ahead and get all my endorsements now as I want to get a tanker job after a couple of years experience or should I get my passport and TWIC now? Which would serve me best starting out?
what would you do?

If your hurting for dough just get the double/triples and tanker, its only ten bucks extra in my state. The rest gets kindda pricey. Theres a good chance once your hired said company will reimburse you if they have loads that require the other stuff

Get your license to work in America first. (I'm assuming you're an American driver.) That crossborder stuff can wait until you're sure this is the lifestyle you really want. There are plenty of companies that don't require oreven care if you have crossborder credentials. I can't get them and I haven't been unemployed for over 20 years.

Don't worry about the passport or TWIC til someone tells you that you need it... a company would be foolish to send a noob across the border, you have you hands full enough in the US.

you can cross the border with only a copy of your birth certificate.
TWIC card would be a waste of time and effort. Get a company ID card if you really need something.
Work towards your endorsements. They make you employable with more options.rdean1109 Thanks this. -

And I do. -
As for endorsements, your tanker should cost 5 or 10 bucks and if thats what you want to do, get it now. Compared to the cost of cdl school, endorsements are pretty cheep. Hazmat is a good one to get. Kinda pricy, but worth it. You need it for flatbed, van or tanker.
Twic prob isnt needed unless ur company wants you to have it. The more endorsement you have the more options you have and the better job security you have. -
Um, yes. You can. I just DID it.
If you'd like, I can also provide you a direct phone number to a port of entry that you can speak with a CBP agent and discuss it with him as well. It was HE that told me I CAN do it.
