Hi,
I'm going to be buying a truck pretty soon and leasing on to landstar. There's a bit of work that needs to be done on the truck before I quit as a company driver and drive it. When I lease on to landstar i was going to get insurance and baceplate through them. What do I do I need from the time I pick up the truck until I drive for landstar.
When I drive off the lot, do I need my own license plates or do they provide some sort of temporary like when you buy a car.
Do I need to purchase bob tail insurance prior to driving it home?
Do I need to keep it insured for it to be parked in Philadelphia while I do some work on it?
Do I need a DOT# if I am not hauling freight yet?
Is there anything else I need to take care of prior to driving it off the lot?
Thanks,
Cody

I have back up plans, but that's not really my question here. I'm becoming an owner operator with or without land star. But yes, before i sign ont he dotted line for a truck I will make sure all my ducks are in a row with who i'm leasing to. My question is what do I need to actually drive the truck off the lot prior to leasing on with a company.

To drive a truck off the lot you gotta write a check. To keep your banker happy you will need insurance. Should be no different than buying a used car.

I'm still questioning the plate deal.
You can go to the dmv and tell them that your'e going to be buying a truck and they give you a plate?
I'm not saying anyones wrong i'm just curious how that works.cetanediesel Thanks this. -
Well that what I'm asking. I would think with a vin you might be able to, but untill you have the title I dont think you can buy a tag.
cetanediesel, FLATBED and MJ1657 Thank this.
