So i will be going to arrow truck sales and try to get a Volvo they have 670 mainly and 1 780. I like the 780 but its more expensive and has a ved 13 with I shift they ask 69k for it 2009 it used to be a us express truck. Now the 670 are from swift they aRe 13sp and 10 speed with cummins 400 or Volvo engines. I'm mainly looking at the 13sp with cummins 400 hp with 400k miles close to 500k and 09 for 55k$. My question is how well does swift maintain the trucks how is arrow truck sales? And any input on the truck will help looking for good mpg and more reliable truck.

Do you get any warranty with those?
Do you get a dyno test ?
Get them to clean the DPF before you get it.
At first glance the 670 looks the better deal.

    cetanediesel Thanks this.

No dyno test but they said the shop next to them does them if I want to and warranty for 90 days or 25000 miles what ever comes first at an additional cost I can extend warranty And it covers turbo and lot of things. Any 1 heard anything about swift how well they maintain their fleet?

Swift does pretty well maintaining engine and drive train. However, look at all filters and upgrade to at least factory spec, Swift does use lesser quality fuel and air filters that I know of. All oil and lube jobs done at 35K intervals. Swift does little to maintain interiors of the trucks.

I would take the 780 with the I Shift personally. Pull the ECM and get the lifetime average mpg for the truck. If it has a crappy average then walk away . If it's good than have it dyno'd. If it passes the dyno then negotiate to buy it. Arrow prices the trucks higher than others to pay for the warranty program. I don't care about the warranty. You take just as much of a chance with it or without it. You know if something goes wrong they will try and deny the claim if they possibly can. I was just at volvo in Dallas and a guy was having big problems with a volvo he got from Arrow. A/C, air leak, turbo and some other things. They ok'd the turbo but everything else was considered normal wear and was not covered under the warranty, and this is the problem. Normal wear is the got you on all warranties. If you like the 780 or one of the 670's and it passes the ECM and dyno I would offer them $10k cheaper than the asking price minus the warranty.

    Foxcover and cetanediesel Thank this.

The D13 and Ishift is awesome, nothing beats it but whatever you do, stay away from the D16 engine!
Having a Cummins in a Volvo is usually problematic after a while, lots of fault codes, harness problems and replacements etc. They don't play well together.
However if you can get a 2011 truck (2010 or newer engine running DEF) in the D13 / Ishift combo it will be the most efficient and reliable truck you could buy these days! Well worth the extra up front!

If u wanna cry latter down the road buy volvo engine......look in truckpaper.com...9 of 10 are volvo engines...d12,d13,d16 unless u have some vudu :biggrin_25524: technics to find THE ONE...am sure they are there...
All have problems with dpf, def, egr sensors but at least anybody is working on cummins....my 5c only w/o any fed/state tax on

At least ask dealer to to print the history warranty repair reports on paper,u'll see what was going on at least in that period

Yes, I have a new one, D13 (500hp) with an ishift. Best truck Iv ever owned, Iv owned quite a few.
The worst truck Iv ever owned was a brand new Volvo with a D16 engine I bought 11 years ago, the truck was great, the engine was the problematic thing. Iv had a few D12's also, found them good too.
The thing to take into consideration is Cummins has always been a good cheap to work on engine, however those days have past and the engine is not the big problem now a days either, it's the emmissions after treatment systems the manufactures are struggling to incorporate into the mix.
In the area of California I live in there has been a huge surge in new trucks over the last 6 months due to the CARB laws. In my line of work cummins get about 4 to 6 mpg and paccar get 3.5 to 4.5 mpg, we get between 6 to 9 mpg. That alone makes a huge dint in the monthly payment!
Volvo have come through developing this technology 10 years ago in Europe, the others have just begun here and their customers are the guinea pigs now.
I have over 25k on our new Volvo and haven't had any issue at all! Will be taking it in for its first service at 30k.
There is nothing about this truck I would change except for the fact I use it on heavy haul application and because of the heavy rated front and back end I don't have Disc brakes, The US haven't given their blessing on the big discs and calipers here, unlike Europe!
We are very slow to move along here in the states! Oh and one more thing my new Volvo was built in the USA! Not like a Perterbuilt! Iv always been a Pete fan but the new ones are a pos, and when not built here I don't support them!
All our company pickups are Ford, my own pickup is a Ford and my wife's car is a Ford, built in the USA!
