Well i definitely Appreciate your honesty. It is important to see all sides. Fact of the matter is though that it beats being unemployed or working minimum wage garbage jobs.
Maybe this will work out for me and maybe it won't, but i am glad i chose to give this challenging career a shot.

trucking isnt all that bad now....its just different from how it used to be....in some ways better, (roads etc) in some ways worse (regs).....yeah we dont make the money we should, and there is A LOT to put up with out here...BUT there are still things in trucking, that you cant get anywhere else......the freedom of the road...the sunrise or sunset that brings tears to your eyes, the beautiful states we get to travel thru ( i have so many gorgeous pics from over the years) and there are still good people out here too.....truckin can still be enjoyable....its just hard for some of us to see the negative things that have happened, so we tend to forget about the good that still exists....

well jowsuf , i wanna wish you the best , and welcome to our world , i will wholeheartedly encourage you to pursue your dream, and encourage you to learn and live the white knight ethic. I realize i really unloaded in my last post but i get the feeling it more than answered your question, and hopefully opened your eye to the reality we old timers have lived already.... Don't get me wrong i love the job and at the same time hate it. I miss the good ole days and get very frustrated seeing the big time changes in a job i love, the changes for the worse, the man who taught me died recently due to severe burns from an explosion of a gas tank on a truck he was using a cutting torch on, every time i climb into the saddle and push that parking brake off, i think of him, its like he is my guardian angel sittin on my shoulder like jimminy cricket reminding me of everything he taught me about being a truck driver...... I remember the excitement your feeling as a young beginner, i was in heaven the first time i grabbed that brownie and started shifting gears , what a glorious powerful feeling it was, then i see the degradation of the industry and get really pissed off to see such a wonderful job go to hell in a hand basket.... The guardian of my six , giggles said it well..... This job sucks and at the same time is totally wonderful.
    Too....
So again welcome to our world and good luck and god speed....

I always heard it said "Truckers are the Knights of the Road". White Knights is new to me, but whatever. The color white is only a property of the armor not the knight. Be heck to keep it clean in a scrap.

The best reason for me to post is that a truck driver has helped me on 2 occasions, and because of that I was not stuck for the night. Neither time would the driver accept a dime of payment or anything in return, but I did convince one to take a case of water.

Motorists should also help each other. It should not be up to only the truck drivers. The biggest challenge is evaluating the difference between skanky and evil vs. poor and decent. Public places help when those in need don't seem at first look exactly the best company. There's never anything wrong with calling 911 and reporting a stranded motorist if the person seems too creepy for direct interaction. And a lot of them do today!:biggrin_25523:.
