I'd have to say a truck stop is safer than most places. The reason being is many drivers sit in the drivers seat after driving all day and watch every little thing that goes on in the parking lot. It would be hard for someone to get away with something. Just avoid taking shortcuts between trucks and walk where you can be seen. Square off the parking lot to avoid walking in the travel lanes. Beyond contrary belief and the news media, truckers are pretty good people and will help a damsel in distress!

The places you want to avoid are isolated places where there are no witnesses. Trucks have curtains that close the whole inside of the truck from the outside world. Close them when you are parked. Out of sight, out of mind.
The 15 years I trucked I never heard of anyone getting raped. Maybe a few that wanted to!

When lot lizards are a dime a dozen why would someone resort to a felony? I'm just sayin'!
