I have been a Smoker for the better part of 20 years. After being diagnosed with Diabetes this last year, to add to my High Blood Preassure, I realized that I was going to have to start taking better care of myself.

Being a driver for 20 years is hard on a body and old habits die hard. I am 100 pounds over weight, So I knew the New me was going to have to lose weight. And then there was that smoking cigerette problem.....humm...

I was pondering what to do about the smoking when a Driver told me about a perscription drug called Chantix. I decided to try it and let me tell you, IT Works!!! In less then two weeks I was smoke free. If you haven't heard of this wonderful product before then check it out! I tell you, it works!!!!

Now, about that 100 pounds, anyone got a drug for that?

No pills, but there are a few different operations that work if you want to get it done and are ready to make more lifestyle changes. (Before anyone starts writing about how they knew someone that died from weight loss surgery, I had it done 5 years ago and would do it again in a heartbeat. I am one of the thousands upon thousands no one ever hears about!)

    Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's hard to keep the weight down and even harder to get it off but sensible eating and monitoring your caloric intake coupled with some exercise can work wonders. It will take a LONG time to lose that much weight but the slower you lose it, the more likely it is to STAY OFF.

GREAT!!! You quit the coffin nails. I smoked for years and gave it up 18 years ago. Your lungs will thank you. Start walking everyday to clear your lungs, build up your breathing capacity, and help lose the pounds. Good luck!!!!!!:biggrin_25519:

My husband used Chantix and it made him smoke more! Doh!!! I heard that just depends on the person.

As for the weight loss. I have been using Alli. I used it back when it was a prescription and lost over 80lbs. but that was around 11 years ago and slowly over time the weight has tacked back on. I just started using the over-the-counter Alli and so far have lost 24lbs. My older sister went from a size 16 down to a size 8. She looks awesome.

Now I will tell you that you have to eat low fat food and exercise. I have been walking anywhere from 1-3 miles a day. If you eat anything fried or that has a high fat content in it while you are taking this medicine then you will be living on the toilet!!! What Alli does is it causes your body to eliminate the fat in your bowel movement. You will see droplets of fat floating in the water when you go to the bathroom. Yes YUCK!!! But it does work. It is not one of those things that gives you energy and you have to be committed to it. But if you are willing to change your lifestyle then this can be an aid to help you. It is not some easy quick fix. It still takes hard work.

    Good luck to you!!!

Same for me, but I quit smoking after I started driving.

One thing that helped me was cruising at about 63 MPH. Laid back, relaxed. I let everyone else around. Back when I wanted to go 70 all the time, I was always uptight, trying to get around the next guy.

Funny thing is, there's always a *next* guy. I didn't really save all that much time, and made me crave cigarettes when I finally took a break.

Also had to give up drinking, because I can't drink w/out cigarettes, and being smoke-free is more important than having beer.

Over the past few months I've had to make a whole lifestyle change, but I feel so much better.
