    I would encourage anyone thinking of leasing to Landstar or any carrier to double check your trip miles before taking a load. Some agents will short the miles and others will run practical, which is closer to actual. If an agent or broker is doing short miles, you can lose 8-15% of the money, if you are counting on a certain rate per mile. After running the miles, you can then decide whether the load is worth taking or not. I have some Landstar and CH Robinsons agents who have begun quoting short miles when posting loads. Since I have pc miler, I run practical miles and check their math. Trucks can't always run the shortest route. If you don't have pc miler, then you can check mapquest for door to door miles.

    When the broker says they are going to pay you X amount for additional stop pay as an accessorial can you get any of that money on your pre-trip card or do you just get it all once you get your settlement?

    You get it on the settlement. Advance consists of fuel surcharge and 1/3 of line haul plus accesorials.

    I have a question about fuel. I fueled up at the TA in Tonopah Arizona. The price quoted from the LCAPP fuel book was $3.469/gallon. The cash price at the pump was $3.369/gallon. Do I always get the cheaper of the two? Was the price not updated on the LCAPP fuel hotline to reflect the current cash price? Will I end up paying less than $3.349 a gallon once the LCAPP price is updated? Thanks for the info!

    I fuel 99.9% of the time at TA/Petro,I never look at the pump price. Before I fuel I call the TA/Petro fuel price line (1-800-494-fuel) and get the cost plus price for the day at the location where Im fueling. Before I fuel I write down my card balance so I can go back later and check to make sure I recieved my discount.

    Because I optimize my fuel I check fuel prices at truckmiles.com and pre plan my purchases,truckmiles also has the current quarterly fuel tax rate for the state your in. Remember the true cost of fuel to your business is your discount price minus any applicable state fuel tax credit. There are some programs that will for a monthly fee optimize your fuel purchases along your route but I find that I can do it myself by useing common sense and doing a good pre plan. My cost for fuel before deducting tax over the last thirty days is averaging .49 CPM. Also if there is anybody out there that is not useing the fuel tracking software over at mygauges.com I highly recommend you at least give it a try,its free and I guarantee you will see an improvement in both your MPG and fuel costs.

    Yeah the price must of changed between the time you called and fueled. You will pay the lower amount.

    Some places in AZ you are better off fueling at a Loves with the 8 cent discount because some T/A's- Petro's have a lower discount there.
