    Besides making sure you eat none stop, work out on ur off days, and think about the money when ur having a bad day? Nah, i dont have any advice. The job is more mental than physical and when ur having a bad day just remember, the day has to end.

    Once u get the hang of the work, ull start to have fun delivering the product and ull meet some real cool people. The pay will keep u motivated, trust me.

    I'm not a truck driver yet so my post may not count. I was working in a US foods drivers house here in New Jersey doing plumbing. Working in his laundry room I had to clear off the top of his dryer and I noticed his pay stubs were sitting on top. I couldn't help but look. He made over $80,000 and the year wasn't over. Now I don't know his seniority or how many hours he worked but it made me want to work there!! Had a nice house and a pretty wife too!! Some guys have all the luck.

    yup! Thats how it is brother. We work like dogs and get paid like kings. Yes your post does count because some people arent believers. Id rather be a plumber than be a truck driver though. More than likely he has senority and gets all the easy heavy runs, but who cares. We all have to wake up at 2am, so its the same struggle! Thanks for ur input!

    Come home covered in someone elses crap almost every day and plumbing wont look as glamorous! :biggrin_25523:Every job has it's good and bad points. Just like truck drivers, I tell people to run from plumbing.

    Not lying but he asked about two different companies, not food service in general. Every company is different. As in "Load your handcart and run", let me know how that goes in five years. Keep "Loading and running" and you going to burn your self and body out quick. I don't "load and run", I load and work at a good, steady pace.

    I work for Sysco out of Philadelphia. Pay breakdown goes as such, you get paid for your pre-trip/post-trip(which is est at 50 min for both), per case, per mile, per stop. Its all based off of the hourly rate that's negotiated by the union, if its a union shop, if not its still based of of the hourly pay scale. Can be confusing at times. If your a worker, you should no problem making good money. Last year I grossed 80,000. Not trying to brag, just trying to put possibilities into perspective. Keep in mind that this is young mans work, and when you start to slow down, the company will have no problems throwing you out like yesterday's garbage. I'm currently trying to get out. I'm 35 and don't want to crippled at 40. Don't get me wrong, Sysco has been good to me for the time I've been there, but like everything in life, know when to say when. (I know! ###### reference.).     I've done food service and beverage delivery, never again. 2 months with 7-Up when I first started driving. Initially it was pay by the hour, my first weekly check was take home $1,100. After 5 weeks, they brought in a new manager and switched to pay by performance. Base rate, based on seniority was $99/day topping at $175/day. The two top guys, were making $175/day, they started at 4:30 am and were done by Noon, including driving to the stops, 7 to 8 stops per day. I was making $99/day, had a 16 stop route, that required merchandising as well. Typically a 12.5 to 13 hr day. I would have made more at home on welfare. Final straw was when I broke my foot and the company jacked me around.

    Worked for Mile Hi Frozen Foods (McD's supplier), combination, mileage, piece count, stop pay. Depending on the day and the route, you could make very good money, or you could go broke. Except for OTR, generally 3 stops per run. Since it was a 7 day operation, schedules changed and varied constantly. Had a 4/2 schedule, 2 night 4 stop in Wyoming, then one day local. The OTR run paid good, the local was a joke. Was with them 6 mos., took me 5 mos. to get that schedule, the final straw was a falling out with the dispatcher and safety guy when they made some nasty remarks to my wife. Turnover ran close to 80% though.

    I have a friend who did 14 yrs with US Foods, as he has said never again. Union shop, depending on the state, the Union goons are old school union goons, have no qualms about making threats to drivers who won't toe the line. Last call for a strike in 2011, couple of guys who were smart enough to figure things out, realized that what the company was offering was the best they could afford and the union was lying, when they started to get the word out, and show proof, well, one guy had the windows busted out on his car, and the tires slashed. The other was paid a "visit".
