The physical work gets easier after a few weeks and you're backing skills improve as long as you're smart enough to get out and look as often as needed. The managers are very annoying. I totally agree with that. They're the kings and queens of the dollar store. Lol. The worst part for me is dealing with the 4am deliveries that don't get pulled out of the dock until 7 or 8 at night. I'm not fond of driving all night with no sleep. Another downside is the increasing number of stores in Chicago and Detroit. I've been doing it for 7 years. One more week and I'm done. I'll be running within 100 mile radius which eliminates the log book. During planting and harvesting season I'll be hauling agricultural products from farms, which will give me an exemption from the HOS. I will miss the money from hauling the DG loads, but not much else about it.

I left Dollar General at one time to run Dollar Tree. The unloading is more time consuming. It's all floor-loaded, so you have to handle every individual box. Your muscles will be screaming for the first few loads, but after that it's just a routine workout. It pays more per trailer than Dollar General, but it takes too long, making it very difficult to get a trailer a day. I gave it about a month and a half, then went back to DG where I could get the bigger paychecks.

I worked this USX Dollar General Dedicated for a while. I was at the Zanesville, OH terminal. I also had a chance to work from the Bethel, PA terminal. THe guys out at Bethel are great, but Zanesville, not so much. The work is hard, but thats okay. THe trailers are crappy and if you don't report any damages before you leave with one, if the next guy that gets it does, they will ding you with that damage. Expect to get bruised up a bit at first, with boxes falling on your head and the roller carts banging into your legs. Over all its a good job and your check will gross an average of $1000 per week. That's before taxes. Lots of guys come and go here. There is a reason for that. Just think about what you are willing to put with before you start. I'm now doing the same basic job for the exact same amount of money per week plus i get home friday night until monday morning and I don't have to unload. JB Hunt Home Depot Dedicated. Same pay, more home time, less work... They say work smarter, not harder. I like that idea...
