Funny thing is, 2nd Avenue IS the truck route, but they've got that stupid pedestrian bridge marked at 12'6" (it isn't).
I just take Lexington. (don't tell anyone okay?)
2nd avenue is a PITA since they started that subway work and with fragile goods aboard even air-ride can't protect the cargo from that lunar surface.
Just be warned, that left turn onto Lex is TRICKEY! If you don't set up your turn in advance proper, or cut it just right, you WILL buy a minimum of 2 cars. Frankly it's just dumb luck I've never run into a scenaro where a car is too close to the corner to make the turn. I'd have to back up the ramp to the split.Speedloader Thanks this. -
Thanks is only needed if you take loads to NYC

in Chicago the police call a diesel tow truck and hook up to the front bumper then hammer down no matter how tore up the roof gets.
-
it means you need an oversize permit because mayor bloomburg is ticked off at the world

One thing with NYC, if you look at their map, they still follow STAA. NY allows 1 mile for food, fuel, repairs, or pick-up or delivery. So, as long as your vehicle is subject to STAA, you can still make a pick or drop in NYC within one mile of the STAA route (I-95, I-278, I-495 from I-278 east, I-678, I-295 and the other one to the Throgs Neck (# escapes me, think I-695). The West Shore Expressway (NY440 is NOT an STAA route, nor is the Outerbridge Crossing).
I just delivered on Hamilton Ave right next to the toll plaza for the Battery Tunnel (which I refuse to call by it's new name). Had no issues with the NYPD, who patrolled the area vigorously while parked on the street double-parked with my hazards on waiting for my turn in the dock and my 53' plain as day. Had fun blindsiding into that dock. At least they stop traffic. And going back onto the BQE north to the Triborough, had to take a few streets, including right by the police dept building on the other side of the toll plaza. No issues. Got back on the BQE and got out of dodge.Speedloader Thanks this. -
For those not in the know about STAA:

Anyway, I thought the Outerbridge was STAA ? Wasn't at one time as a detour for something ? -
I'm not sure if the Outerbridge and 440 is STAA from NJ in as it comes off the end of 287. It isn't when it's on Staten Island., but I've not had trouble while on it. all we have is 53s.
The Bayonne bridge is the other side, that one dumps on 278 a couple miles east if going to Brooklyn across the Verazanno. I prefer Chicago, I get around better there because I know the area and the patterns of traffic betterSpeedloader Thanks this. -
NY triboro's is not as everyone say's it is, the fact it alot of driver preffer not to go to NYC because of tolls, and that they are so scared of a place not familar with.
NCY area is just like any other large city, if you can't go to NYC than maybe just do something else for a living. -
I didn't know they changed the name! What is it? I was still in NY when they renamed the Tribourgh bridge.
