So I have an orientation set up with Schneider. They send me to concentra to do another dot.
My blood pressure ranged from 160/103 -144/103. I was told they would use the lowest reading well that didn't happen they used the highest denied me a 1 year and even a 3 month cert. they gave me a form for my doctor to fill out stating condition and treatment and whether im fit for duty. I went to the va doc next day had he filled out the paper for me, said that I was fit for duty no restrictions. white coat syndrome. The next day I went back to concentra the checked my blood pressure again got 136/96...The nurse said lower number isn't low enough that I would have to come back. at this time im pissed, I ask if he could take it again he does and its 144/100... On the way out I ask again if I can get a 1 year cert or a 3 month cert. The doctor says no...WTF... im well below the highest dot guidelines... mean while im supposed to go to orientation on sunday...
I do take blood pressure medication.
    is this normal practice?

I think I may see the cause of your high blood pressure .... and trucking is probably not a good fit for you, anyway. If you think you're having BP problems now .... trucking is full of seemingly counter-productive actions and things that will only add more stress to those who can't keep stress in check, and will test an individuals ability to remain calm and collected.

Does'nt sound like a normal practice at all.No one is on the same page.I would go elsewhere. You're doing too much work.Schneider isn't the only company.Or maybe you can ask your doctor for a different BP medicine.Im on bp medicine and my pressure reads normal every time.

The low side is whats hurting you now, it can not be over 90, 140/90 is the max for a 2 yr however while on BP med you can only get a 1 yr reguardless of the number. Also your BP meds should get you well within this number with no problem! Not sure what your taking but a very effective med for high BP is Lisinopril 20 mgs. this will get you under 140/90 within 10 days. Get to your Doctor and ask to be put on Lisinopril then call your recruiter at Schneider and tell them you want to push back your orientation start date for 2 weeks. that should get you straight. During the 2 weeks while your BP is dropping from the Lisinopril look around and see what other companies will be a good fit for you, it never hurts to have a plan B and even plan C! But one thing for sure the Lisinopril over 2 weeks will put your BP were it need to be. I hope this helps :biggrin_2558:

Thanks I am on a water pill and a blood pressure pill. my blood pressure is normally at 128/78. I get all worked up when I get to the doc office.they should still give me at least a 1 year right? I have an orientation date with prime a couple weeks out. I really don't want to go with them because I have a one time chance at getting an extra 1275$ per month tax free and then 975$ per month tax free with Schneider and a 5,000 sign on bonus. plus they are offering me 5 days out 2 home reg run.
I wish I could just see my doctor when I wanted but I cant. I was told it would be at least a month before I would get in to see a doc with the va.
I don't get frustrated easy im a laid back guy I just hate doctors...

From the OP my first thought is that there may be an error in procedure or in the testing equipment at Schneider. Their test results are consistently high, while your independent test results are significantly lower. I wonder if there is a way to challenge them to recalibrate their equipment?

That would be a losing fight and would take to long. find a walk in clinic pay the 90.00 or whatever they charge to see a doc and get on that Lisinopril 20 mgs and you will be right as rain! When your getting that BP test you gotta close your eyes, forget were you are and put yourself in a happy place for 1 minute. Yes I know its easier said than done but focus on it and you can get past the white coat issue. beleave in the Lisinopril 20 mgs! with it you can do a few push ups and still be under on BP!

Prime won't qualify you if your blood pressure is over 140/90. You have to get it below 140/90 before going in for orientation.

To be clear...this is not a Schneider employee who is doing the testing. It is a separate company called Concentra. So when you say go to Schneider to get it checked.....its go to Concentra. SNI gets the bill from Concentra....The complaint should be towards Concentra.

I'd stop in a Walmart or Walgreens and use their free BP unit to see what you get when you're not experiencing the stress of being in a doctor's office just to see if that's really impacting your BP.
