I was hoping for a post to get me going in the right direction, but the posts are all over the place. And some or a bit old. I am looking into making money. Don't care what I am doing or where I am doing it. Where do I begin my search and what do I look for?
i am currently driving otr as a new driver trainer. I have 2 1/2years experience as a flat bed driver. I have endorsements for doubles, triples, tankers and my hazmat was just renewed. Only one speeding ticket 2 years ago for doing 62 in a 55. I don't drink or smoke and can pass a pee test. So what am I looking at as far as possible pay and what type of job should I be searching for.
Yesterday, one of my students was talking to a friend of his who just got his cdl a few months ago. He just landed a job up in ND and his first paycheck was 2,600. Thats for one week. Kind of made me wonder why the hell I wasn't up there.
Where do I start?

Look on Craigs List ND plenty of work up there as well as TX and AK some are even offering housing.

Working in ND,you work long hard hrs and some ppl love it.Heard they'll pay or help pay for your relocation. As you know there's no money in the average trucking.ND is one of the few states that does'nt have a high unemployment rate.
-
Are the Craig's list posts legit? I have found so much bs on Craig's list. Do they post wages?
-
I would do the research on the company before moving. But I have used Craigs List a few times for work and have been happy.

Isn't ND the one that is wanting to change it's state motto to "Best Fracking State in the Union?"...
... each fracking well needs 2000-5000 truck loads. Lot's of need and off paved road driving = high pay. -
the housing situation is getting better, as in you can actually find a hotel room now. It's still expensive though. Craigslist is a crap shoot, but it's the fastest way to find work. If you're up here and living in your car while looking for work, craigslist is probably the best way to go about it. Housing generally consists of living in the truck or sharing a trailer with three guys, though.
The big companies that offer good housing will take a few weeks to process your app and do interviews, but they'll usually hire you over the phone so you don't actually have to be up here to land a job. If you're patient and willing to submit lots of applications and follow-up phone calls, you'll probably have better luck at finding a job you're willing to hang on to. -
There have been a few guys post here that they went to Williston and walked into a bar or a gas station and had several job offers in 30 minutes. The only reason i haven't gone up there is the weather and the living situation.
So I am going to TX. A little less money but you still have a life besides work.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you do.
