well as a walmart driver i have to say they have to be among the top. treat you great, set schedule i know my days off for the whole year. the money and benefits are awesome. they never bother you just do your work and keep rolling. and its actually tough to get fired from there unless your caught stealing or failed drug test. Highly recommend Walmart to anyone looking for a place to retire.

True, BUT ... Having seen how wallyworld operates from both sides of the coin ( I've worked a store's warehouse as a team leader and I have a son who'se made contract runs for them) I can unequivocally say that NOBODY will beat them when it comes to having a steady stream of business when everybody else around them are drying up. However, you can drive for wally, or you can drive for a company who drives for wally. The second option being preferable and I'll show you why in an analogy.

There's a company operating in this reigon that manufactures and distributes the lion's share of dry goods for grocery stores known as Gilster/Mary Lee. They run their own fleet and boast of the best pay and best hometime schedules in the business. However, its commonly known that their trucks and trailers are older than dirt and in the worse shape. How little they care for their equipment is indicative of how little they care for or respect their drivers. There is a way around that, however, because since they have such a difficult time recruiting and keeping enough drivers, they contract out a lot of their loads to other OTR companies. My oldest son drives for Hogan, and he absolutely LOVES their Gilster contract. He enjoys all the pay and route advantages, with none of the disadvantages. When he meets Gilster grivers at the stops, he says they say they hate (envy) him because of the great company and great equipment he has.

Same principal applies. Find an OTR carrier that does wally contracts, enjoy the great schedules and avoid all the BS.

Oh, HA, someone mentioned Dollar General. Some company recruiters will brag about how great the schedules and pay are when you drive for one of their contracts. The Werner recruiter for example really boasted about how their drivers LOVE the dollar general account. My son started driving a decade ago for Schneider. He LOVED the company, but HATED the Dollar General account. These are all LTL loads, many many stops mostly city driving, short mileage totals, extended UNPAID detention time, and 100% self load/unload. You have to load & unload many heavy pallets per stop sometimes without even a pallet jack or hand dolly. Translation very hard work for very low money! Most stores have a very narrow dead end alley where you can barely get in, and invariably you will find piles of trash cans, empty pallets and various junk in your way from even getting to the undersized door. Their unreasonal complaints and lack of respect for drivers is a whole nother matter. Stay away from the Dollar General account!

what BS are you referring to ? do your job no one bothers you and there is no bs.....I see you have little to no driving experience so you really have no advice to offer as far as comparing companies.. I have a great schedule with walmart and no BS totally stress free.... every post you have is based on what your son says is it possible he got denied by walmart and there is some hard feelings. i just wrapped up 3100 miles for the week smiling all the way to the bank.... your analogy really makes no sense.

Apologies to you sir, I will promptly inform the admin of this site to bar anyone with less than 13 years of 3100 miles per week from posting anything here since they have no advice to offer and make no sense. If I may ask, what are doing holding a steering wheel 11 hours a day you should be Obama's boss since you are obviously better and smarter than everyone else in the english speaking world. I would crawl in a hole and die just to appease your holiness but there isn't a button here for that. Let me give you my address so you can come kick me to near-death as you stand on my worthless neck.

I don't offer advice on something that i do not have first hand knowledge of nor should you. and lets just be honest what insight can you personally offer comparing companies that you have not worked for. I am not knocking you for your lack of experience but what have you been able to compare in just 1 year ?

you have no knowledge of what its like to be a walmart driver yet you spew out an analogy of why not to drive for them and to avoid the bs. thats the gripe i have .

There is no bs at all zero.... they treat us like kings . Didnt believe it until i got here myself but yes its true. retirement home for abused truck drivers.

I don't look down nor think I am better then any other driver but I do feel blessed to be a part of the walmart team

WISH YOU A LONG AND PROSPEROUS CAREER....:biggrin_25514:
