Loads going Into Canada

    Three questions about loads going to Canada! I seen a lot of posts from drivers that have been driving for a while complain about loads going into Canada. Then complain about there recruiter telling them they wouldn't have to go into Canada if they didn't want to...

    1. Why do a lot of drivers dislike or refuse loads going to Canada?
    2. If you don't like going to Canada why hire on with a Company the runs into Canada if you don't like going there?
    3. Why would you believe what a company recruiter tells you if you have been in the industry for a while?

    Loads into Canada require special paperwork to be submitted before arriving to the border,and must be correct or you face major delays,it's worse coming back out loaded.
    Things always seem easy,don't take a job with a company that goes into Canada, to many do.

    Don't want to go to Canada ? Don't get a passport , passport card , or enhanced license . Canadian scales are tough and they keep building more Supercoops . Check any carriers safety ratings and most have a much higher OOS in Canada .

    Especially when they take your drivers license and passport and leave you in a room.

    Then come back later and ask you to prove who you are when they have your id.

    Thank goodness for TWIC card.

    I did many Canada loads with Werner.At first I hated it because I did'nt have a clue what to do.But thanks to many drivers,they helped me along the way.Once I got the exp going into and out of Canada I did'nt mind it.Yes it can be very time consuming especially in Detroit.But if all your paperwork is in order its not bad.Sweetgrass Montana is a breeze.Takes 5 minutes and you're in Canada.Just depends what customs you have to cross.Of course that was back in 2003 and 2004.Now that laws have become more stricter especially in trucking and you need a passport it probably does suck.

    It's a pain crossing the border back into the U. S. on vacation. Not sure about the wait times up in Canada, but, depending on where you cross coming from Mexico, you can expect a 2 to 3 hour wait just to get to the customs inspector. I used to go to Rosarito a couple times a month and waited up to 3.5 hours a few times crossing at San Ysidro(San Diego). I can imagine you have to have your paperwork squared away and all your ducks in order to bring a load in from Canada. Would hate to see what its like trying to bring on from Mexico. Anybody care to share any of their experiences crossing into and out of Canada please do so.

    I don't mind dealing with the Government and their paperwork BS, I worked for then for the Government for over thirty years. It's usually not the paperwork that's the issue, its usually the lazy Government worker thats the problem.

    I saw a thread on here where a veteran trucker hired on with a company that runs to Canada, after, "he said", he was told by the recruiter he would not have to do Canada runs. If your a veteran Trucker, why would you believe a recruiter anyway, you should know better. Why not just go with a company that doesn't run to Canada.

    Its like everything else in trucking , if you know what your doing , what is needed to be done beforehand , whats expected from your company as proper paperwork and everyone does their job its a BREEZE getting in / out of Canada.
