You need an ACI manifest to go in and an ACE manifest to come back.

The customs guys don't care how long the line of trucks gets and they are in no hurry to get things moving, sit in line for hours to get to the booth, then you might get sent to x ray or secondary inspection and waste even more time. This is US customs I am talking about, canada customs usually keeps things moving along nicely.
And to top it off michigan DOT loves sitting at the border and wasting more of your time once customs is done with you -

Recently I talked to a driver who hauled hay out of canada all the way to texas. He makes about 89k a year but the hours are long and strenous. Not to mention the border patrol on canada is a pain in the badonkadonk. As far as recruiters go....their salesman...paid to say anything possible to get you on to whatever company your looking at...be careful.

1. Why do a lot of drivers dislike or refuse loads going to Canada?
Canada customes can be a pain depending on what crossing and what your hauling. If your not white, it can take time to get back in to the USA. A fellow driver at my company (asian) said it takes him hours and they always search his truck when he comes back to the USA. I've only been searched once and it was not very detailed. (10 min) Most of the time they look at my passport and say go ahead.
Also, they loads don't pay much more for all the paperwork hassle. The tolls going t canada don't accept I/EZ pass so you need to get reimbursed form your company. (Depending on crossing) Quebec sucks because I dont speak french and sometimes get lost.
2. If you don't like going to Canada why hire on with a Company the runs into Canada if you don't like going there?
Most carriers have some freight going there, atleast all the big ones.
3. Why would you believe what a company recruiter tells you if you have been in the industry for a while?
I wouldn't, but most noobs havn't been in the industry -
FLATBED Thanks this.
