I think some of you brilliant heros tend to forget that everyones situation is different. I appreciate it though because it makes for good entertainment. Example,I would just love some posts about sitting around in Houston,Tx waiting for that three dollar a mile load because you just ain't gonna haul no cheap freight. LOL. Yeah,I know, you wouldn't go there for less than five dollars. LOL. I don't like it either, but if my customer needs it sometimes then you can bet the truck won't be sitting there the rest of the week waiting for a miracle. Get what I can and get the hell out same day or grab some sailboat gas and set sail back to my customers.
Oh well, it's great to know that some people have no competition and can pick and choose their loads all the time.

And that's the truth. You do have a good thing going there and it's not real easy to come by. More proof that everyones situation is different.

    Forrest,

You're not getting the gist of the conversation. A couple days a go he came on here and said that he could not believe that anyone could ever average2.00 a mile, all miles. He is wrong. No one in the last couple of days has gotten on the cheap freight kick at all. They have simply stated that it can be done.

If your business model is such that you are successful then kudos to you!

The bottom line is that one way or the other we must all be paid for our empty miles. They exist for all of us. How you or I or anyone else chooses to do just that is an individual decision.

In fact in your post you state that you will sometimes haul sailboat fuel, therefore, my assumption at that point is that you've built enough into your inbound rate to do just that. If that is the case then I believe your business model is working, if not then you need to reevaluate what you're doing.

Too many think like that ....and that's the problem.

Point: You turn the key and move it costs you money. Truck knows no different. Hub is hub. You can ignore it, you can discount it or do anything you want, truck knows no different. All miles count in fuel, maint and taxes. How you choose to get paid for those miles makes you a business man.

The fuel tank is still empty at 1500 miles from last fill, do you have the money to fill it? ( pair of 150's )

The 200 miles you ran to get to the shipper count, the loaded miles count and whatever you have to do to reposition for the next load count. All miles and all with fuel and maint. costs.

    Big Jay
I assume this is the post you were referring to as a couple of days ago. If so, I admit that since I was not too sure about what exactly he was trying to say,I kind of breezed over it. He made several statements in the post and each one would need to be evaluated seperately. Yes,it's possible to average two dollars a mile and more of course. Each individuals situation is different.
But, I can agree with his point in another post about too much emphasis on deadhead miles. I had a dispatcher once who said that the miles in between loads was not deadhead but rather going to pick up a load. I've thought about that statement some over the years and for the most part I agree. There are limits to everything. I will not likely find a 100 mile load that's worth deadheading 500 miles to pick up,but that seems to be common sense. However it's very possible to find 500 mile loads that's worth going 100 miles to pick up. Do it all the time.
It's the guys who claim that they will just sit somewhere until they 'get their rate' that trip me out. And of course they always do in the end. Heros.

    Big Jay Thanks this.

LOL. And that's a good example of the posts I find "interesting". A darn good gig espicially in Fl. Should be real quite about it because of guys like you who would be happy to replace him. Hey,Tampa isn't that far away ya know.

I don't even answer the phone for under 4.00 per mile. I need permits, chase cars, and such.

Nah, I wouldn't want to replace him, but I wouldn't mind him being a coworker. It's called planting the seed. I already run 70% intrastate FL and make great money doing it, but I'm always looking for a better gig, just like we all are.
