Fuel pressure at idle is 60, under load 70, today got pretty hot out pressure hit 80-85 totally different truck for the better. New fuel pump snd hoses done last fall. With hotter thinner fuel i had pressure increase. What to check? Should i shim fuel pump? If so what bolt needs taken out to do it

Has the truck always been like this? Have you checked the fuel bowl and check valve? If you have one...there was a rag sized debris stuck on the check valve on mine causing it not to fully open.

before you do anything change filters, could be plugging up or you got lucky and got a bad one. then check pressure. the buttons in the primer pump have an effect on pressure if they are going bad. the check valve is under the filter base on engine.(it's a 1 inch bolt head towards the back of base facing down) if that don't cure it then you can shim the pump spring if old style pump or get the updated spring for the new style pump. an inexpensive way to check fuel restriction is drop your suction line and return line in a bucket of clean fuel and run the engine to see if the pressure changes.

Interesting I have a 5EK 3406 that's always been around 50 psi, right above the red part of my gauge. Truck runs pretty good but sounds like I might have a thoroughbred if I get my pressure up?

I think your design might be different but its where the fuel filter connects to the hoses, i would check all that. There could be junk in the place where it meets up with the filter. Does the truck pull well in the hills?

The 5EKs run a higher volume set up, with less pressure than the newer engines.

    SAR and K-D Thank this.
