I was an O/O with CR England before Landstar but CRE still had total control over me there (I was just a glorified company driver) so that was one of the many reasons I left there. I really like being my own dispatcher and overall my experience has been a good one. I like how corporate does not bother me for nothing and I am totally on my own out here.

Landstar also goes out of there way to help BOTH the agents and BCO's become more successful. For instance, there's a free class coming up called "finding the loads you need" which is geared to help O/O's navigate the system and find the loads that work best for them. Any other companies do that?

That's the trucking business in general, a lot of people go out and buy a truck, and in so doing think that they are now a trucking company.... Sorry, but you're not a trucking company, you're someone with a truck.... you now need to learn how to operate a business, and you need to learn how to market yourself.... you're not a trucking business until you learn how to calculate your costs, and price your services accordingly, and still, even then, you need to learn how to conduct business...... and that involves making business contacts and negotiating rates.... (marketing yourself). Does Landstar take advantage of people who got in over their heads??? Possibly, but as there are so many LS BCO's posting here that are happy and successful I'd have to say probably not, the people over at LS corporate just so happen to be pretty good at business themselves

That's the nature of load boards, and it really doesn't matter which one as the nature of the beast doesn't change.... when I'm working the boards I'm pounding the phone and locked in, I'm refreshing constantly, doesn't matter which board, and I've already figured out my game plan, I know the rate I'm after and I'm pursuing it.... my only problem with LS is that there is only one rate, and that's the rate that's posted by LS on their board, now is that rate negotiable, or is it a locked in done deal?? I'd love to have OZR clarify that for me... (and here's a big hint LS guys, if you see something on the board that is posted and seems to be pretty close to what you want/need, maybe call up and discuss this with whatever agent has the load posted??

Folks, are you seeing how this works???^^^^^^

If this economy ever gets going a lot of people are going to make a bunch of money......

We have a transportation based, fuel based, economy...... getting the cost of fuel down is the key to this economic recovery.... diesel fuel is the lubricant and energy source the that runs our economic engine..... unfortunately we have politicians who think that the most important thing is to reign in this engine because it pollutes the atmosphere, and instead of roaring along on the avenue to success we are loping along with fuel starved motors coughing and wheezing on their own recycled spent gasses, and the captain at the helm is telling us not to worry, that American ingenuity will replace the fuel that everyone is currently burning with something magical, non-polluting, renewable, and less expensive..... maybe someday we'll all be utilizing wind powered sail trucks....

You could show the disbelievers your checks and all of the support that LS gives not only you...But anyone who becomes leased on...A BCO or....Like me...have freight agreements with LS....And they still would think LS is taking advantage.......

Whatever....I'm happy....Many others are happy...And you seem pretty happy with your arrangement with LS.....Sometimes people are afraid to be happy in life....With themselves or anything else....Their loss....

Dude, the nature of business is to recognize opportunity and to do what???

    Take advantage of that opportunity....

I think it's more like this..... some people have an unreasonable expectation of how our system works, they think that if they have a generous nature and a willingness to sacrifice that, that should be reciprocal..... and when they find out that the real world doesn't operate in that way, then they are upset and want government to step in and correct the social injustice....

Business works in a way that is somewhat diabolical, you give the appearance of being someone who has the best interest of others at heart, (your business partners, the people with whom you do business), while in reality having your own best interests at center.... and this is basic marketing..... and the capitalist model.....

Now, I am not saying that you can't be sincere in your business dealings, but what I am saying is, "hey, let's not kid ourselves", at the end of the day I'm trying to do the best for myself, and everyone else is doing the same, and when the system achieves equilibrium, as will happen in a free market system, then we have realized success and the fulfillment of the American dream....
