I've been driving with this company for almost a year now. I haul from California to various locations across the nation.
A few weeks ago I was coming through the desert in California on I-40 going east. I was on that long hill just before Needles. It was just after dawn and I guess I got a little carried away with coasting down the hill. I got pulled over for doing 81 in a 55. I NEED A GOOD ATTORNEY.
The officer also gave me a ticket for not holding my lane. I don't remember wandering. I was probably going around the bumps in the road, but I guess that doesn't matter.
I guess, each ticket is 1 point for most people but since it's California and I'm a CDL holder it's 1.5.
.
Running in various States where speed limits are 75 makes 55 seem like I'm crawling. I can understand keeping trucks to 55 in the cities. Narrow lanes and lots of traffic make California tough to drive in. But, I can't see making us do 55 out in the desert on a road that was originally designed for higher speeds. My truck will do 75 and I'm pretty much used to running close to that speed.
That ticket is for 26 miles over. Pretty #### serious looking. I'm afraid the insurance guy is going to be pissed.
Now they've got my attention. I haven't let my truck get anywhere close to that in California since.
I would guess that quite a few people have ran afoul of that draconian speed limit.
Any suggestions & advise would be appreciated.

I wouldn't call 81 in a 55 a 'little carried away'. My advice:
Pay the ticket, learn from your bad judgment, and move on.okiedokie, randal02lee and Boy Howdey Thank this. -
Get a lawyer today. I had a ticket for speeding on the Grapevine, and for being in the wrong lane ( I was empty and on my way home after 5 weeks, and I gave in to temptation to use the 3rd lane to pass a very slow moving truck). The lawyer got both charges dismissed, and I got my money back.

OP, if you can lawyer up and beat it, go for it. I know what you mean, ive been running down donner, looked out the window for a sec and Im doing 75..I know what its like to get carried away in the middle of nowhere. Just pay attention to your surroundings, and hopefully youll learn from your mistakes..We all do dumb things, even the perfect drivers, some are just unlucky to get caught.. good luck.moloko Thanks this. -
randal02lee, double yellow, Dewey120 and 2 others Thank this.

Well, there is that...Ghost Ryder and randal02lee Thank this. -
Thanks
I just started doing research today and discovered that there are a lot of lawyers vying for attention. CDL tickets can be good money for them. It's going to take a little while to figure it all out. -
Where is your cdl issued from? What state?
I might have a answer for you just sent me a private message.
I've been caught doing worse, its a desert should be at least 70 limit from Barstow east or north. -
Ouch...that's a bad one! I can tell you from experience that I got a 20+ ticket coming into Chattanooga. I got a lawyer cost me around 500 and was guaranteed no points. Well I paid thinking they would get the ticket dismissed...BUZZZ...wrong answer. All they did was get the points taken off. The ticket still showed up? So just make sure what your paying for. If I had known I would have just taken the points and saved my 500 since I had nothing else on my record.
