I run 70 cuz most of our loads require it. Some loads ur lucky to get an extra hour.. but I guess my mpg is kinda good for my speed.
what is your mpg?

Ya got to do what ya got to do. I ran 65 last night, all night, to get from Louisville KY to Milwaukee on time for an AM appointment. If you're going to invest in that kind of speed for a load, there needs to be enough money in it to cover the additional fuel. OTOH, I'd rather run 55 and get the 8 mpg whenever I can. Between the fuel bill, tires, wear 'n tear... the additional revenue from another trip doesn't usually add up to enough to make up for the savings in fuel at lower speeds.

2011 Cascadia. Run at 54 whenever possible, which is most of the time. 75-80K. 3400 miles last week with a student driving: 9.44 mpg=.06/mile fuel bonus. That was Jersey to Olney, IL, to Ogden to Colton, to Milpitas, CA. All of last year averaged 8.52mpg. Over $5000 in fuel bonuses. That $$$ in the bank is why I drive so dang slow.

I disagree, when the tires wear down you are changing the diameter of the biggest gear in the gear ratio by up to 3 inches. If I could maintain 63 mph at 1400 rpm when they are new it will require closer to 1500 rpm to maintain 63 mph when they are old. Reducing mpg and increasing engine and drivetrain wear.
Also, since there is less room for air and water flow around and through the threads I would expect to see an increase in rolling resistance as the tires wear, not decrease. -
You can disagree all you like, but Michelin says your full of it on this one.Trucail Thanks this.

Yup yup! I watch everything like a hawk! Experience shows MPG gets much better as the tires wear!
