If I had to do it over I would of flew from Chicago to Orange County CA to fight it in court myself as it was a BS ticket to begin with. I was in the left lane because vehicles were merging onto the freeway and I wanted to be courteous and safe. At the time I did not feel the cost of the flight and hotel justified fighting it so I just paid the $100 something dollar fine thinking it would just go away.

Well then I found out they put it as a "conviction" on my MVR. Maybe it is the way CA courts do things but I was surprised to say the least. I had spiked up car insurance for three years after that and was denied a driving job just because of that one moving violation on my record. The cop who stopped me was really nice at least lol.

Despite that I still love California it's the most beautiful and exotic place in the US. Hawaii does not count.

Lawyer wouldn't hurt if you have the money. Your problem is that 26 over is considered wreck less driving, you can lose your license for that.

My buddy got caught doing 65, hired a lawyer and the points got dropped and replaced by a steeper fine. But that was for 65 not 81.

I also heard a rumor that you're allowed to go to driving school to remove a point now as a truck driver. Not sure if it's true or not.

Lawyers going to cost you around 600+

Actually, that signs states "Truckers-Let 'er Drift-Use Minimum power-Let 'em cool."

Exactly right which IMO means hey guys go ahead and cut the curves (safely of course), let'er roll and keep your brakes cool....what more could that mean......it doesn't even advise you to "gear down" but I usually do......and there's a sign a ways back before that one advising of the grade and to use lower gears......now the excuses and backpeddling starts.....OOPS, WRONG SIGN......OK THEN, "HERE'S YOUR SIGN"......"Apology Accepted"........!!

From what I read in Land Line magazine a bill was recently passed in California that if we get a ticket in a four wheeler we can goto traffic school now but if we get a ticket in a CMV we cannot.

I've used Paul E. Antill Law Offices in SoCal before with success. Cost me a good chunk of change though and it was nowhere near a ticket of the magnitude you received. I'm not sure if they'd do it that far out though. Needles has their own courthouse out there and that's a long ways. Make sure you specify to any lawyer you contact it's out there because San Bernardino County is huge and might not cover that area even if they claim they cover cases in the county. Generally, I always say find a local lawyer for the town you'll have to go to court in.

Just a side note from their website:

This is about the best advice you can get. Don't pay it and 'take your lashings.' With a 26mph over speeding violation, no trucking company would touch you..and even if they did, their insurance writer would laugh at them...not to mention your personal insurance rates.

I tried to send a PM, but my post count is too low.
I've had the account for a while, but I haven't used it much.

My CDL is issued in NM.

Given that scenarios like the ticket from the OP can effectively curtail or end a career, it's wise to consider buying one of those insurance policies that provide legal representation for tickets and citations. OP needs to lawyer up and beat this rap or at least reduce it to avoid even more costly consequences.

My thoughts exactly. It's not just a speeding ticket.
It could cost me my job.

Course the way I look at it, if I'd been 20 or so miles further (in Arizona) it wouldn't be serious at all. 6 MPH isn't serious at all.
