I'm going to be taking the Tanker and HazMat tests at the dmv on Monday, in the state of Texas. I've been studying for a few hours in preparation. Obviously, there is a huge difference between a Multiple Choice test with leading questions, verses having to come up with specific answers having memorized much data while studying. Can anyone tell me, if you know for sure, the format of these tests here in Texas?? I sure hope they are Multiple Choice!

I earned my CDL 5 years ago and know I need to review the whole manual again. For now though, I'm just trying to learn the info I need to pass these two tests. In the Texas Commercial Motor Vehicle Driver Handbook, in the Tanker section, it begins by reading "This section has information needed to pass the CDL knowledge test for driving a tank vehicle. You should also study Sections 2, 5 and 6." Section 2 is: Driving Safely (35 pages), Section 5 is: Air Brakes (7 pages), and Section 6 is: Combination Vehicles (9 pages). That sentence makes it sound like information in these additional 51 pages will be on the Tanker test. Does anyone know if this is the case? Just trying to allocate my time, wisely.

    Thanks

The tests are the same in every state and multiple choice . If you keep practicing with the CDL Practice Tests available at the top of this page you should pass . Keep practicing . Each test here has new questions .

Well, RickG, thanks to your advice of taking the practice tests over and over and over again..., I passed the Tanker with a 95% and the Haz with a 93.3%. Thanks again for the info. :biggrin_2559: I go and get finger printed tomorrow.

I was fingerprinted for a Texas concealed carry permit.
Do I need to get fingerprinted again for the hazmat?
    Thanks

Not only do you need to get fingerprinted again now , you'll have to be fingerprinted again every time you renew your CDL with the hazmat endorsement .
