I heard that some of the kids at the elementary school did go to the basement and a water pipe burst and they drowned. Husband is headed straight into Oklahoma City for his ten tonight. In St Louis now and it is storming pretty bad.

This has been a very informative thread to say the least! Thank you atrucker for sharing your experiences. I'm starting my CDL training next week and have been researching various companies I feel I'm going Schneider, spoke to recruiter and he advised to go ahead and apply. Wasn't sure about that until I committed to school first but will do after my first week in. Thanks again and be safe on the roads.

Rolling on! Made it to my pick up last night and spent the night there in Mobile AL. Grabbed the load (loaded with new trailer a TA143 woohoo!) this morning and started this trip to Red Bluff Cali.
Qualcomm navigation wanted to head up to the I-40 and go across that way.Nooo wayyy! With all that is going on up there in Oklahoma decided to stay on I-10 and run across the south to I-5 on up to Red Bluff that way. It's about 70 miles more but is a faster route in my opinion and google maps thinks it is faster too.
In Baytown TX now. Made it about 450 miles in 8 hours. Not great, but the next few days should prove to be more productive. Plus I have to manage my hours to keep my clock going so will only do 8 hours a day for next few days.
This load is fairly light, route is mostly flat. My fuel mpg now is 7.3 will do well on fuel cost! Cha Ching!!
Flat land and light loads works wonders for your over all fuel mpg. Reducing speed helps a little but not much in my opinion! My overall speed varies. Probably average about 63 or 64. Running across TX will bump that up a bit!Last edited: May 22, 2013

Installed 1500 watt inverter and bought a mini fridge/freezer from wal-mart. Having a fridge with a freezer you can pretty much keep food and eat like at home. Will then cook the food in one of those little lunch box stoves. Works pretty good. Takes about 1/2 hr to cook.
