Yeah - What Slant6 said. Good moxey. Be nice to all your customers and hand out piles of bizz cards. Shake hands and smile. Be your own politician. Get a single axle Volvo, F'Liner, or whatever. Get it with a bunk. Check the camper and RV classified sites for good deals on single axle, clean, one owner, low mil units. Wanna really push it ? Log your time as driving and sleeper berth splits. Better yet, get a buddy to drive with you as a team unit. Advertise as a fast product mover on the coast. Good locations in FL and NY as bases for loads, fuel and showers. I just came from PA to ME yesterday. Lots of wedges on the road. Never saw many empty. 'Luck.

Good stuff guys! Thanks so much. I'm actually getting the trailer serviced right now for some stress cracks in some welds. Purchase all new tires and then once I get it out the shop its GAME ON! I'll be post tones of progress threads lol. Be on the look out.

Those are underpowered turds, get a real tractor or stay with a dually. If it's got a 3126 CAT in it, don't walk, RUN from it. -

Be interesting to see how you drive, load and book loads at the same time. Or fax your COI from the truck, it can be done. But you make your money driving, not doing office work from the side of the road. Maybe GF can and has time to be your dispatcher? Just Sayin'

Almost anybody can drive a 1 ton pulling a trailer . It takes a businessman and salesman to survive . Anybody I saw coming to a hotshot forum saying "I bought a truck and trailer . Where do I get loads ? " didn't last 6 months .Speedloader Thanks this. -
Amen Bro RickG ..... I 100% agree. I am a non truck driver, actually I am legally blind and don't really drive anything. Nor have I ever been a truck driver, tho my Dad is retired from it and I have owned some other transportation companies carrying people, not cars or freight. I have started and ran a few business that have done well and feel like I can work my way around the business world, somewhat. I did go to school way to many years and have an MBA and attended law school.
But I hooked up with a real truck driver who has been hacking out a living for over 25 years hauling everything. Together we where able to have the what I feel is the "Perfect Storm" of teamwork. He brings in real world experience to our operation and I bring in he 24/7 attention to building and making a profit. I have the time to build the relationships that bring us the business and he has the time to carry freight. But between our backgrounds we have been able to grow and add a few freight carrying Class 8's and a small fleet of Owner Op's transporting auto.
And we have built a growing base of customers for our dispatch service, by applying those same values we used to grow our own businesses. So 100% right on the money about needing to be a businessman and a driver. We just took other steps and did it with two people, so we can each devote the time to what we both know how to do well.
