At least your company had the sense to clean house in Ellenwood. That fleet manager needed to go, as did the others that were terminated. Perhaps these will be steps to improve morale in the Southeast Region. They were large parts of my discontent.

You are correct, sir. Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder, just as each has their own perception of good and tolerable in other arena's of life. Perhaps, in time, I can reflect on last year's learning experience in a more positive light. Trucking is a difficult vocation, not as much for others as for some. Not knowing what I was getting into, after being out for a great while, I may have held higher expectations than I should have. However, I will not accept all of the blame for being disgruntled. I have always been able to play the game as long as I know what it is. Without re-hashing any of my experiences, I found the game had changed before I started. And it kept changing. It wasn't all bad. I actually enjoyed some weeks (when I was busy) and a few times I made some money. My point here is each will find his or her own good and bad points with anything, especially a work related venture. I will discontinue any further opinions of your company. I hope you didn't take anything I may have said personally, for I did not mean anything personally. My objective has been to inform other potential students to not expect or believe everything they may read or hear. I scoured this site for months before choosing Roehl and felt that I had found a place to retire. It was not, for me. Obviously my situation is not unique, nor is it standard practice. For now, good luck, safe driving and have a successful career.

From what I hear, they need to clean house in Gary too. I don't get down to Ellenwood since I went to the reefer fleet, but it never impressed me when I was hauling van.

I do agree with you that one of Roehl's biggest problems is their DSR's. I suppose I am lucky becuase mine is an ex-flatbedder who has actually been there and done that. I have talked to others who have DSR's that harp on them for the dumbest things.

It can be a tough job. Give us a load and leave us the heck alone!

Thank God I am now retired. All this bellyaching about Roehl makes me laugh. In my honest opinion,if you cant cut it at Roehl you cant cut it anywhere.Believe it or not truck driving is a job. There are good loads and there are bad loads. And if your gonna be a successful driver you are gonna get some of each.

You know nothing of my experience with them. How can you possibly judge me, or anyone else? I am still driving and enjoying it, for your information. So, this alone negates your statement. And, by the way, the reason I left had nothing to do with good loads or bad loads. They are a good place to learn to drive. I will say that honestly. From what I have heard they are correcting problems that they had in some administrative positions, and that is where most of my problems originated.
    Good day

If you are retired, then what do you care if someone bellyaches about Roel or not? I used to work in the medical field but I don't go to RX.com and whine.:biggrin_25523:
Lots of people can, and do make it in trucking, but probably would not make it at Roel. From what I have read about them on different boards they are geared to the newbie or someone who does not mind being controlled all the time like a brainless numpty.

Good trucking outfits don't need to litter the 4 corners of the earth with glossy large font adds to get good drivers either.

There is no training company out there IMO that is worth a #### for a experienced driver because there focus is on training trucks and Government subsides to fuel the mill.

As usual, BigBlue calls it dead on. I remember posting about the training mill & subsidy sugar-titty the companies suckle over a year ago. I was nearly laughed off this site by folks with about two brain cells to rub together. It's good to see some brainpower out there that will post it like it really is in the world.

The big grinding machines WANT turnover as they have something to gain from it. *suckle*...*suckle* that welfare-for-the-rich sugar nipple.

I work for Roehl in the 7/4-7/3 and everything was fine for about three months, then it became apparent that they felt "We've got him so we can treat him however we want." Suddenly it became apparent that they were just another lying trucking company. When I started we were told in the "expectations meeting" that our seven days was from Wednesday to Tuesday or Saturday to Friday. Now they are saying it is from Wednesday to Wednesday and Saturday to Saturday. That is a big difference. No use leaving for another company I would just be trading one bad company for another. I have come to the conclusion that if I have to stay in trucking it would probably be best to get a union job or my own truck. They can dispatch a thousand trucks better than I can, but I can dispatch one truck better than they can. I will say that I have been able to run legal without a hassle, but you give up a lot with this hometime option and get very little in return. You don't get the miles or hometime you are promised. I have always heard Roehl drivers complaining about low miles even when the economy was good three years ago.

Sounds like it has become the 8/3,8/2.When was the last time ya got a preplan? The planners are a joke at Roehl. They need to run there buisness better and stop blaming there driver's for problems they create.
