"And why are you here? You have 16 posts, every one of which is over here bashing Averitt. That's usually the behavior of somebody that got fired and has no where else to take it out on. I'm surprised management hasn't noticed this yet."

So what your saying is that management is on this site and looking at everything that is posted? If that's the case then I would be willing to bet that they are also having things removed that they don't want others to see. Don't know that for sure but why else would any trucking company personal other than drivers be lurking around this forum unless it was to keep certain things out of the public eye.

Good luck, most of the trainers I have met seem like good guys.
And welcome to the forum as well as to Averitt.

I worked for Averitt Express for 6 years out their Tampa Service Center, 2 years as a Line Haul/Truck Load driver, 2 years as a Combo/P & D driver, then 2 years as a Transfer driver. All of which were the best 6 years of my driving career.

Line Haul I averaged 2,300 miles plus I would pick up extra money working the docks at different locations during the week which most driver didn't know they could do. I was always home ever late Friday or early Saturday and would always leave out on Monday morning. My main objective was to transfer over to LTL which at the Tampa Service Center was hard to do, one cause no one ever quit, two when a job did come open most of the time we were stealing FedEx & UPS drivers cause the pay and benefits were better and no union dues & management breathing down your neck.

Combo work was excellent. Trailers pre-loaded just put inside, hook up and run. The pay was excellent too and more overtime then you even work. Home every night and off every weekend.

Transfer was even better, it paid .18 CPM more than Line Haul plus it was hub miles. I ran Tampa to Chattanooga and back which was 608 miles each way which was 3040 miles per week. I would only sleep in Chattanooga on Tuesdays & Thursdays at a hotel. Friday nights I would meet the driver coming out TN half way and we would just switch trailers and head home.

I had to more 1,300 miles away and out of their hiring area for family reasons or I would have stayed their until I died or became able to drive anymore. I still have friends there and at a couple of the other service center and all of them still love it. Sure they belly ache about minor issues but know they could never find any place that would treat them better.

This is why I am a proponent of truck drivers being paid by the hour instead of by the mile. Any time that someone is at the job site (truck) at the assignment of the company, they should be paid for time spent. Otherwise, it is slavery, and that was outlawed a long time ago.

    Hello all,

Do you guys that drive for Averitt required to drive all night often? I hear that they have a pick-up at night and deliver early next morning thing that is pretty regular.

    Thanks,

Also, how do you guys like automatic transmission trucks?

Just the roll of the dice. Some weeks you will get locked into a vampire schedule for days and there will be weeks on end when it doesn't happen.

Almost all of the LTL shuttle runs go at night. Generally leave at 2000-2300 and deliver 0400-0800 the following day and can be 300-500 miles with about an hour to play with with. These are light loads, drop & hook at both ends.

The transmission is take it or leave it for me. I don't mind either but the programming has improved vastly with the autos over the ones of just five years ago. But I figure I'm in high gear 80% of the time anyway so it's really not a big deal.

fedex express glory days are over its ground now least in tampa. Hourly pay is good but at $17 an hour for 15 hour a week who could live off that? I thinking bout jumping from this sinking ship and landing on averitts.
